Burke's do not hide their secret for success. they buy good, sound horses without breathing issues, train them the way horses are supposed to be trained (hard), race them where they belong, and put the best drivers on their horses.

If a horse cannot take hard training, he does not generally do good for Burkes. Like Just Saying pointed out, Ron Burke does not miss a thing. He is up before dawn and watches the last horse race every night. I've even seen him race at night in Lexington, load the horses on the truck and drive to Pittsburgh immediately after...himself!

How many so called "elite" trainers would do that and then go straight to the barn?

Another secret to Burke's success is Mark Weaver, who will tell anyone who will listen that he alone is the reason for Ronnie's success. Mark sees things no other owner can see when watching prospective purchases.

I have no doubt that everything LVGD says about Ron is true.  However, there are also a few supporters who expose this philoshiphy--my trainer is smart, hard working, has good owners and all others are jealous.  However, unlike LVGD, they then go on to bash other high % trainers as cheats and POSs.  Lets face it, every hard working trainer is not nearly as successful.   This only causes more attacks on your trainer.   As Amy and Beans have said, it looks like there is a penchant in the game for doing this.
I'm sure another factor in the Burke's success is that if they do get a horse that does not turn out as expected, they will get rid of it, albeit at a loss.  You can't bat a .1000 . Knowing when to cut your losses is as important as anything.  Some owners and trainers look at the horses almost as pets and are very slow to admit that they can't cut the mustard.

Mark Weaver has told me of many horses they bought for large prices that soon go into much lower priced claimers to try and recoup some losses. Every Delaware sale is loaded with Burke horses that are not as good as they hoped the horses would be under their regimen.

Success takes an entire team of good players. Ron Burke will also be the first to tell you that he has a top quality staff at each track or training center they stable horses. I really admire their operation. I can't see how Ronnie and Mickey Jr. keep everything in such perfect order. Like I said many times, if I can't or won't train myself and the horse is any stock at all, Burkes would be my first choice.

If you win races you are a cheater in this game period.....(sarcasm)......people do not grasp that training horses is a skill and with any skill in life people are going to be better then others. Do people try to gain an edge of course they do. The key with many of these trainers who have high win % is the ability to classify their horses correctly and race them where they can win.....How often do you see Burke, Coleman's of the world racing 50-1 horses in claimers? They aren't and its not because the bettors are all over them every time, it is because if they had horses with those odds they would just drop them down to where they can be 3-1.

How could they not be anyones first choice....they are punking the entire industry!

No secret on my theory, I have said it many times. Obviously they are not doing anything illegal or with the number of starters and tracks they would certainly be busted.......but do I think they have knowledge or a product (legal) that gives them an edge.... absolutely. Of course I said the same thing about Virgil Morgan for about 20 years!

I am just a common gambler and the one thing I am certain of is a 4 horse 1/5 entry and multible chalk winners a night is not a good thing!

here we go again While I was thrilled with the way my horses raced on the weekend, I knew that the acccusations would fly.  The horses were in classes they should do well in and the barn in nj is sharp right now and yg has never been sharper.  Now to juice junkies I will make the same deal to you that i offered flukemaster you put up 10 thosand vs my 100000 and you can have total access to my barn which is recorded by the way with 16 camera on a 30 day loop.  If i cant win races anymore or you catch me cheating you keep the money.  If not I keep the money ,you are welcome to stay as long as u like.  Dont say u dont have time because 100000 will cover either your time or a group of peoples time

Ron, I am not challenging that you are cheating.   I am trying to have a discussion.   I surely cannot come for a hundred grand, though for 250,000 as a salary I would come and work 10-12 hours per day and report what I seen to the masses here.

I do hope you are not cheating and I was more creating a place that people could think and compare what you are accomplishing verses what Lou or Cassie or Croghan etc have done thru the years.

Thanks for the reply and the offer.

Your trying to say you've never called him a cheater? If you make a statement at least stand by it.

He has great hair.  I bet he doesn't use Suave.

Watch it Hollar, my Uncle created the Suave brand when he worked for Helene Curtis. (and now has a villa in Italy in addition to his Highland Park home and his Ft. Myers condo). It's great stuff (or was when he sent us freebies all the time)

I consider my self to be pretty fair & reasonable.  I have never put you in the same sentence as Pena - he stands alone.  I don't see why you seem to be expecting to see any negativity, although I guess it is bound to happen.  You win both the numbers game & logic game.  You have tons of horses in classes that they should be in & you use the best drivers.  And you've consistently done that at many tracks for many years.

Yeah, I agree that 1-5 4 horse entries suck for the sport but that's how things work out sometime.  Your pacer's won 10(?) in a row so he's 1-5 or 2-5 on his own.

You can't please everyone; you gotta please yourself!

Has anyone ever left the Burke stable and went out and started a stable on their own?

I always wondered why you do not see more assistant trainers go out and test the waters, if I am correct Tony Alagna left Erv and went on his own. I would certainly be tempted to take a shot if it were me in that situtation!
