I wonder why we cannot get more folks into Standardbreds .  They are alot more fun than being one of 100 owners on a thorobred that you only get to see the horse you own from a distance most of the time and then only watch him race a handful of times a year.  What are we doing wrong that we cannot sell our
standardbred product better?

 First, I'm not a horseman.

My outside perception is that, nobody is doing nothing wrong (despite all the controversy), rather these times are simply a changing-of-the-guard and/or interests.

If there's not enough wagering public to sustain the sport, that makes the drawing-pool for participants much smaller.

In addition, and traditionally speaking, many horsemen have come from farm families and farms (at least the family-type) have fallen by the wayside as well.

Hell! Many kids today haven't a clue about how to put in the simplest of gardens, how would they begin farming?

Very true Wilderness.

I have trained both and believe me STB are the superior being! TB folks don't understand you can train a STD yourself. no paying a trainer, excersise rider, hotwalker, saddler in the paddock.  TB's are terribly expense to train and race. I do most all of it myself and I have a horse that is prety easy to deal with, sometimes! LOL
Always sit chilly you never know when they gonna spring.. I love to gallop him, but very interesting!
