We're certain entitled to both our opinions as what is beneficial or detrimental to the sport.
Unfortunately the collateral damage just brings more shamus' looking for headlines to splash and deter humans away from racing.
The newspapers provided all of racing with FREE and very extensive promotion and advertising for half-a-century, and in the previous century (to the half), when racing came to town, the front pages and multiple inner pages were filled with daily news of the racing, horses and people.
Unfortunately, and in our past half-a-century, the newspapers didn't offer any "tact", and slandered people based upon rumor and conception, however still plastered all that crap across the front page headlines. Like the freaking National Enquirer.
Retractions of truth on the other hand were (and are) printed on page 112 and mixed in with the classifieds. Generally the retractions were only a few lines because they were not newsworthy.
Plastering everything that's wrong with racing across the the headlines and/or the internet, is not going to bring one-additional fan to the already deserted grandstands.
