Hawthorne Park Promo

I heard an ad on the radio today for a promo at HawPk. You pick who you think will win the Pres primary (Mich, I assume), and from the winning entries one is picked for a free day at the races. The track will only be out a table, couple of meals, programs and a few drinks. Heck, throw in a couple of small bet vouchers. It's a damn cheap promo and might stir some interest.

Why can a t-bred track entertain a sensible and cheap gimmick, but a Chicago harness track can't? I get so tired of that cheap-ass attitude. Why not give away $100 to make a thousand down the road.

I'll be there over the weekend. so I'll be sure to enter!!!!  Current promotion at Balmoral is you get a coupon for a free betting voucher every race day until March 11 for from $2-$2,500.  So far I got a 2-5- and 10 voucher. The girl at the booth told me evryone has a couple $20 in their pack, you just have to be there on the right day.  I asked how come she didn't have any $2,500 vouchers in her stack,said she has to call the supervisor for that one.  Of course, there is only one $2,500 voucher in the thousands they sent out.

Hawthorne Park has always been more "user friendly" than any of the harness tracks (with the possible exception of old Aurora Downs) in Chicago. Part of the perception of Chicago harness is derived from the Johnston, Narotski, Langley connections. Compared to those three why Al Capone's Sportsmans Park was more user friendly.
I remember when we raced at Hawthorne, not that many years ago, the Careys would throw a party for the horsemen every meet.
They, the Careys have been involved in the track since old Tom bought the land and built the place in 1909 and they know how to be successful. Unfortunately the Johnstons never did care to, or were too dumb to learn.
Hell, we claimed a horse there one season and the track sent along a cooler and water bucket.

I was always treated well at Hawthorne. The Carey's were always a class act & treated the horsemen with respect. Something the Johnston-Narotsky-Langley cabal will never learn.

If Hawthorne had harness dates I might get back into IL racing.
