I disagree...The long range narrative promises to be realistic and compelling. They needed to use the first episode to frame the story and introduce the general viewer to the track.....Outstanding low-life characters....Good acting....I guess they're already working on the second season.

Not bad.....should get better......one picky item.....Where they came up with $864 for that PK6 Ticket is beyond me....it was actually $1,620.....but guess they figured nobody cares...

Typical Michael Mann directing. It has Dennis Farina. Hell, I kept expecting William Petersen to be chasing the Tooth Fairy through the grandstand.
Chickens on the backstretch? But no garden gnomes.Clearly unrealistic.
It was okay, but not as good as the hype leading up to it, Won't be spending the money for HBO just to watch it. Will wait for the first season dvd.

Thank you.  That's exactly what I told my wife & I was like WTF when they said $864.  I thought I got it wrong.

I really thought the authenticity was disappointing.  A horse snaps his leg & then like 10 seconds later, other horses go past him.  Watching stretch runs of jocks holding their horses, the inside move to win with a juiced horse who should have exploded through, seeing track degenerates score for $2.6 million.  Not realistic, if you ask me.

Overall, disappointment.  But of course, I'll keep watching.
