I remember the days when races NEVER got called off in Chitown. If you had a heart attack & died on the way to the track they would fine your widow $200

I raced one at Hawthorne the day of the infamous "Fog Bowl" at Soldier field, when you couldn't even see the ball players on TV. (a 260 mile roundtrip ship for me) Drove one at Blmpk when the announcer informed the bettors that the chill index was minus 38 degrees at post time. I gave that pulling sombitch his head because I wasn't gonna let him make my hands ache in that weather. (hope you didn't bet him, 'cause it wasn't pretty)
