Just as the kids move on so do the parents.  Others must step up to the plate, same as I did 4 years ago.  Other kids' parents will also get an opportunity to chaperone & judge, although it is unlikely that most of them will see it as an opportunity rather than a chore.  That is extremely unfortunate.

As far as my donations, they will decline as I am about to just start paying for my daughter's college education.  But I would never abandon the program and would never turn down their request for help.

Now I must ask, what is your involvement in schools or social programs?

Little League...... 8 to 12  Babe Ruth 14 to 16
Girls Softball... 6 to 11....Travel softball  11 to 17
Science Fair Judge at 4 different Schools in the District for 14 years
PTA member 15 years....at three different schools
Boys Basketball coach Park District 5 years
5th grade both boys and girls basketball teams 5 years(three years of which my two were not in that grade)
Secretary and Director of the Town's  Football/Cheerleading, Poms Program 5 years.
OldTimers, the Parent  Organization that oversaw, all of the sports activities in our town including Volleyball.
Can PM you further info upon request regarding my involvement with SCHOOLS.
Please note many of the above referred to programs I continued to stay involved in LONG AFTER my children had become age ineligible.

Speaking for all the teachers who rely on the help of parents who choose to get involved with their kid's schools, I would like to thank guys like you, Dolfan and newandimproved. The impact of your involvement reaches beyond the time your kids are in school.  Other parents do get motivated by what you have contributed, and your own kids are learning lessons they don't get in the classroom.  For me, as a teacher and a parent, it was especially gratifying to see my kids return to their schools to help with the programs they benefited from.

So you must see like I do, how few parents actually get involved; it's shameful they do not even show up to events where their child is getting an award.

Yes, no doubt my daughter will be passing up a money-paying job & instead will be volunteer coaching at the school next year, assuming she goes to college close to home - she is trying to get scholarship money into Univ. Miami.

Without teachers like you, it'd be hard to get parents like me to commit so much of our time (and $).

I think most of us parents with students involved in any program (sports-band-debate-ffa.....etc.....can assemble a pretty impressive list of contributions to these events.

With now having a 7th grade and freshmen child involved in multiple sports / choir...I take my hat off to all you parents you have already been through this and still have your sanity and a bank account!

 I will not be able to watch the big m tomorrow because I run the clock at the boys basketball games....just another night in the house of BJ1 and Royal!

I think most of us parents with students involved in any program (sports-band-debate-ffa.....etc.....can assemble a pretty impressive list of contributions to these events.

At the last 2 national tournaments that were held locally, my wife & I were the ONLY parents at one of the events & at the other, there was one other parent.  And so many of their children walked to mom or dad's car with a trophy while mom or dad waited in the parking lot to get out of there as soon as humanly possible.  "Most of us"?  No chance!

I was judging rounds & putting my DVR to work while all of the other parents were at bars or at home watching the playoff games.  They are fools as they will have little to remember or tell their grandchildren about their kids while I'll go on & on with a huge, satisfied smile on my face.  I'm not gonna leave this earth wishing I had spent more time with my kid.  I'm taking it anytime & every time she gives me the chance.

So I miss a couple of games, a few nights at the races or whatever.  I wouldn't trade those moments for anything!

And don't play all tough with us; I remember you writing plenty about your kids.  You're sucked in just like I am.

Dolfan.....there are several kids on the teams that I have never seen the parents, I simply can not understand this? Seems like we have the same 5 or 6 sets of parents that do all the extra work, just the way it goes!

Yes we are sucked into all of the kids activities, just thought that was the way it worked. Sometimes I feel like the easy target, all the coaches expect me to do stats, keep books...etc...what can I say, I am a fish!

So much to say here, as a parent, as a coach and as a volunteer, but A) too busy trying to get caught up after my whirlwind trip to Rowan University with the reptiles and B) Need to be careful how I phrase some of it. Maybe tomorrow.
