First visit to Hawthorne Winter meet Sunday
« on: January 10, 2016, 10:20:30 PM »
Place was very clean and looked in great shape.  The French fries in the track kitchen were really good!  The crowd was sparse.  Handle was not very good.  I bet it was only $600,000 or less. Of course it was bitter cold and that ,no doubt, held the crowd down.  But, I remember those Winter double headers back in the hey day and the crowd was often huge.  No simulcasting back then, just got something to eat and waited for the second card to start.  Would get there at 11 AM and leave at midnight.   Without slots there will be no Illinois racing in a few years. idunno

Not going to make it out for the brief winter meet but will make at least one trip after they open again on Derby weekend.

Good Times tonight ( Besides Rocknroll having to sit in traffic for 2 hours as all lanes were closed on 88 east  4pezz2)

Tony B joined us and we all cashed some tickets and the prices were very nice.

That little rat looked so small warming up, and we ended up singling him since we couldn't stop talking about it  rflmao1 rflmao1
