Before it gets too old, some final thoughts:

* Gingras was right about choosing Pinkman over Habitat. He was an absolute monster Saturday night.

* JK She'salady and Sassa Hanover could be another great rivalry next year, but don't be surprised if someone else deals JK her first defeat. At this point, I still don't understand why Gingras chose to stay with Sassa.

* If Sweet Justice didn't get so wound up in the early going, Campbell may have won 3 BC races. Still don't know how he managed to pull it out the Open win with Thinking Out Loud.

* Thank you Brett Miller and Modern Legend for making the Open final one of the most exciting and competitive races of the year.

* Football, baseball and racing all have video replay and inconsistent rulings. The decision to leave Lyons Levi Lewis up was just as confusing as Bayern not being DQ'ed in the Breeders Cup Classic. And if us veteran horseplayers are scratching our heads, what  is the casual bettor thinking?  Racing needs to fix this. Now.

* Not taking anything away from Traceur Hanover, but Go Daddy Go had all sorts of problems that included being run into from behind by Lost For Words coming out of the 1st turn.

* If Pierce doesn't fall asleep with less than 3/8's of a mile to go, Yagonnakissmeornot wins the Open Mares final. Instead the others got the drop on him and he winds up behind Krispy Apple who was backtracking.

* He wins the Adios, he wins the Breeders Crown, and he leads the division with over $1.2 million this year, so why shouldn't McWicked be 3YO Pacer of the Year?

* Gutsy effort of Maven's reminds me of Peace Corps. Commander Crowe scores one for the old pros after Foiled Again fizzled in the Open final.

* He made $400k this year but compared to last year and how the year began, Market Share had a disappointing season. He looked done the other night.

Actually I think Foiled Again is 1,2,3 in the final if Brett didn't pull. Brett had him boxed in till the wire. Pacing 1:48.4 with nowhere to go is hardly fizzling. Brett certainly made the race a lot better race by pulling.

I agree with most everything else you said and also would have DQed Be A Magician on Friday had I been the judge.

If you watch the replay, at the fifth pylon in the stretch, Timmy had room to get through. Sears cut him off, then bore back out again late in the mile allowing Timmy through. I could have driven Classic Martine through at the fifth pylon.

Trust me- I still say Sears is the best driver in the sport, and I love Be A Magician, but Timmy clearly had a lane until he was cut off, regardless of what the judges said.

Sweet Justice hasn't been good since the beginning of the year, and was wildly over bet. And that race wasn't a BC race.

My observations summed up in one word: boring

I've said numerous times that the older open pacers are my favorite class. When a) it only draws a field of seven and b) four are from the same barn, I get truly disappointed. With four barn mates entered, it completely changes the way you need to handicap the race. Thank (driving) god Brett had the balls to pull and challenge Lou on the front end. I know it's not going to be popular to say it, but I agree that there needs to be a limit on the number of entries by a barn/ownership group. I don't blame them as it's okay under current rules but it's just not good for the bettor or the industry IMO.

The horse had room to get through but there was never enough room for the bike to get through, they made the correct call there IMO. It kind of reminds me off the Forrest Skipper/Hothead race.

TonyB: I hate short fields too, but the only thing boring about last Saturday night was the minutes between races; almost glacial-like. And the 4 buglers - I think the youngest one was 70. Couldn't they have found a good looking woman that knows how to blow?

The Open Pace would have benefitted if Captain T. wasn't retired and Golden Receiver was showing his age. Don't know if that Canadian horse Bigtown Hero was eligible.

Well on second though he did beat Omaha Survivor his last 2 races which were on the 18th and 22nd

of this month, makes me think WTF.
