Buck I St Pat Connections Appeal Crown Eligibility

According to a release, the connections of Buck I St Pat have launched an appeal after their eight-year-old Jailhouse Jesse mare was declared ineligible to contest the $250,000 Breeders Crown Mare Trot.

The Woodbine Entertainment Group release also states that the appeal will be heard during the morning of Thursday, October 20 at the Ontario Racing Commission office in Toronto.

Buck I St Pat, a multiple stakes winner that has banked in excess of $2.3 million in her career, is trained by Ron Burke for Howard Taylor, Edwin Gold, Abraham Basen and Ronald Fuller.

On October 2 at the Red Mile in Kentucky, Buck I St Pat made a break in the $83,700 Allerage Farm Open Mare Trot and was distanced. In her next charted line, which was recorded October 13 at Chester Racetrack, she made a break behind the gate and eventually trotted her mile in 2:00.1.

Excluding Buck I St Pat, the mares that were entered to contest the $250,000 Breeders Crown Mare Trot appear below alphabetically.

What is their basis to appeal?  Are the rules not specific on qualification?

Yeah but 1 of 3,   if they were worried about the two breaks they should just say the horse needs a clean line in one of the last 2 races.  Sounds to me like they just don't want to run an elimination.

BY USTA rules and I would assume any racing jurisdiction in the states she would be "on the list"  this is why I am curious.........are Breeders Crown rules specific about a clean line?  If so, she only has one in 45 days.  Other than that there is no doubt she would need to qualify.

Maybe the Burke clan can't comment until their appeal is heard.  I'm interested in their reasoning behind the appeal........but it will probably have to wait.

In stakes, the rules of a stake apply, not qualifying standards. Mr.Taylor certainly paid stakes payments for her to be eligible under the rules of the Breeders Crown.

The OSS rules state a horse does not have to be qualified for the finals...............just wondering why this is such a controversy........either you do or do not have to be qualified.

Ontario Racing Commission deputy director Rob McKinney told harnessracing.com Thursday morning that an appeal by the connections of Buck I St. Pat regarding the rejection of her entry into the upcoming Breeders Crown at Woodbine Racetrack has been denied.

Rules:
The Society reserves the right to add to, amend or delete the conditions
of all or any part of the Breeders Crown program, without liability including
but not limited to:
a.) classes and divisions of races, eligibility of horses, fees and payments,
and the amount of purses to be awarded to each race, elimination
race and Final race;
b.) time and/or date of declarations and the time and/or date of the
supplemental declarations;
c.) dates and/or the location of any or all of the races including the date
of the elimination races;
d.) other matters that the Society determines to be necessary and appropriate
for the proper administration, promotion and implementation
of the Breeders Crown program.
Unless otherwise specified and except as may be affected by a state
or provincial racing Commission or Board, USTA rules not in conflict
with these conditions of the Breeders Crown 2011 to govern, as well as
the Track rules and regulations. The conditions, and rules and regulations,
shall be those in effect at the time of the race.

sounds like they went against their own rules.

That how IL is. Tom Kelly even answered it. they break the breaking rule and the

30 day without a race or a "Q" rule all the time here. I'm not even sure they have

any rules and it is much worse when they're trying to fill races. At least in Canada

I'll bet they're consistent on the rules.
