One thing that needs to be addressed
« on: May 05, 2014, 01:48:33 PM »
One of the biggest things that needs to be addressed in harness racing is canceling of phony bets. This practice should be outlawed immediately. You buy it, you own it.

I can understand if someone makes a mistake, but I would stop all bet cancelations ten minutes before post time. If you make a mistake earlier, you can fix it. If not, swallow it, bitch.

All these people are doing is manipulating the pools, both legal and offshore. And one of the biggest tracks that allows such abuse is the Meadowlands. I don't get it….Gural screams integrity, yet allows this b.s. to continue.

It is very simple to cancel a bet. Whether it is happening at the Meadowlands itself or an online wagering site, or even at a different track, it is definitely happening. I believe it is happening on the track.

Further if I ran a track, there would be no wagering 15 seconds before a race starts.

New Jersey permits canceled wagers and in fact it was not too long ago that Northfield's pools were regularly manipulated from New Jersey, although generally from player(s) at Monmouth. It seemed at least every other night I was on the phone to mutuels.
Any jurisdction has the power to ban bet canceling if it chooses to.

Some guy used to do it from the west coast at Rosecroft.

Still happens with a driver or 2.

It gets to where you can tell their intentions.

The worst thing at the Meadowlands is when a favored trotter who is 3/5 when they go to the gate makes a break before the start of the race, and he goes up to even money or higher when the gate opens. You know there has been a big bet canceled.

Another huge beef I have is gate bettors who bet when the wings open. This is total b.s. Northfield has allowed it forever, and one or two guys hit many major payoffs-especially trots, because the practice is allowed.

It is getting to where they need to stop all betting before the starter moves the gate 30 seconds ahead of post time. And as I said earlier-no cancellations of any bets the last ten minutes before scheduled post time. At Northfield and Yonkers, they out to make it 15 minutes before scheduled post, because they are always five minutes late starting the race.

I agree.  The person betting ahead shouldn't be at a disadvantage because people still at the track are able to see a horse break before the start.

Where did you see this reported?

If I bet a horse at any track at any odds and see him off stride rolling to the gate, I'm cancelling my ticket every single time. Who wouldn't?

My point exactly. Why should you be allowed to cancel and not every other person at the track? This is an integrity issue. No one deserves an unfair advantage.

Integrity issue? They can still cancel their tickets at the track if their by a machine, just like I can if I'm by my machine in my house. I've cancelled just as many tickets live and at the otb seeing my horse break going to the gate then I have sitting at home.
