Ny., Ky. investigate allegations of race horse abuse

ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) - Thoroughbred racing regulators in New York and Kentucky are investigating allegations of mistreatment of horses by Racing Hall of Fame-nominated trainer Steve Asmussen and his top assistant, Scott Blasi.

The state's racing commissions say Thursday that investigations were launched after People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals provided video evidence from an undercover investigation of Asmussen and associates. The PETA investigation was first reported by the New York Times.

Just read part of the report. Apparently Asmussen hired an undercover PETA employee to work for him for several months. This guy said he can document many cases of shocking horses, drugging them, and even Asmussen himself and his assistant trainer drugging them personally.

The fallout here will probably make Lou Pena look like a saint.

At least Asmussen has made millions of dollars training horses, so he should be set for life.

One thing this article doesn't mention are the other 9+ hours of video that PETA will be unleashing on society-supposedly right before the upcoming Triple Crown races.

PETA would have us believe that this girl is not unlike a mafia family who was infiltrated by the cops.  Sadly, it will likely affect every person involved in horse racing in one way or another.

I will carry to my grave many dark secrets far worse than anything brought forth in that video. Let he who is without sin cast the first stone.

Are you kidding? PETA will love to show their tape on TV IF they have the dollars to show it. That's what they wanted since the KY derby when the filly died. If they show this on national tv, then they feel like they will win. (They probably will since most of the new people probably will never see the good of racing!!) BTW I just got out of ICU sat and my doc let me come home sat night. I almost made it to the big house this time!!!

I watched the 9 minute video. I accept that most of it was BS about lasix and joint injections BUT the discussion about Nehro's feet absolutely fired me up. ANYONE who was involved with that horse, who knew his soles had bloody, rotten holes in them that they tried to fill with super glue, needs to be ear twitched and have a pack of smokes put out on the bare soles of their feet every day for a year. I would even take up smoking to stand in line to do this....................absolutely sickening what they allowed to happen to this particular horse.
