Another thing that has militated against fast time this year, in all departments, has been the unfortunate state of war that has prevailed between the advocates of the barrier and its opponents. This has led to bad conditions, with much ill-feeling on both sides.
The situation is, in fact, deplorable; what may come of it remains a topic replete with interest, especially as regards the future of harness racing.
The present writer has never posed as a participant in struggles of this kind. Nor have I any desire at this late date to depart from my life-long custom. But at the same time a few comments may not be out of order.
