I kinda thought the same thing, haven't seen a great view of it but when it first happened I thought Yannick might have came into Jody. It's been a long inquiry that's for sure.

What a great day.  I'm biased because I made some good money.  There was a lot of leaning back in the bikes though.  Must be fines galore.

Two great days for me. Made some cash, gavce out a $780 elim Tri and $50 wiinner to the gang at Woodlands Cigar at the cigar/handicapping seminar, but only bet a deuce on him myslef. Raised awareness for HHYF and earned them a few bucks, hear a freaking hilarious Rachel K story, met the one and only Jeff Lieberman, finally got World-record holder Jamie Coffey to show up and talk to me in person (Am I the only person besides Bianconi who saw both world-record half-mile efforts?), witnessed (through the eyes of Sam McKee) Bianconi eating a slab of ribs while wearing a white shirt and not staining it. Cashed a few good tickets, even though I was working. Grilled bologna with onions and pepper jack is awesome. But it needs bacon. And there was some multi-heat race, too

Another Jug came and went.  Great day.   No screaming Roger about setting attendance records .    because they didn't but they had the back stretch full which I haven't seen in years.   Looked like the backstretch tent was at least half full and the Mountain tent wasn't bad either.   The grandstand wasn't full by any stretch of the imagination and the bleachers were almost vacant.  but if anyone is paying any attention,  the backstretch chairs were betting their butts off. It was good racing and the fans were on the backside.  Getting all uppity doesn't work. Put your effort into the backstretch fans and making their experience the best ever.  Take a lesson from Nascar and maybe you can get the butts in the seats again.

Yesterday was truly a celebration of harness racing. Hearing Tim Tetrick say in a USTA interview that he doesn't tell the judge how to sit in his chair and the judge doesn't need to tell him how to sit in the bike was precious! Hearing "It all starts with the stewards...", is a great way to fire old Gary D. up.   

Seeing Roger Huston in a radio interview validate my belief that two heats are great for racing really made me happy. And hearing Roger say that the Jug is truly the best harness race of the year (look at the crowd) just made me ecstatic! He also pointed out without the fans, we have no sport, so give the fans what they want: all the best horses racing Jug day!

Personally I am fairly certain that the Captain would not have won the Jug and that is why he was not there. I met one of his owners, Joe Sbrocco there yesterday. He was very disappointed that his horse was not there.

Also met Cleveland's harness racing historian, D'Arcy Egan yesterday for the first time in many, many years. D'Arcy is a member here, but rarely posts. He was a writer for horse racing in Cleveland back when the sport was booming, and it was great to see him there working yesterday.

And I got back a little of the money I'd lost the other three days.

If you have the best horse in the country and know your horse can win the Jug, you take him. If you know he can't, you save face and take him somewhere else.
