OT- Reptile rescue- help needed
« on: July 24, 2013, 10:16:41 AM »
Indiegogo crowd funding campaign in process. I have committed $5K annually to the Foundation. I hope you will choose to help, as well.

http://www.indiegogo.com/projects/herps-alive-foundation-reptile-rescue/x/4003557

Herps Alive! is an award-winning, interactive educational reptile program that has appeared in nearly 40 states. In recent years, we have been asked to take in more and more pet reptiles from folks who could no longer maintain them. We take what we can, but we cannot maintain them all. For many years, I have funded this project myself, with the occasional donation of equipment and a few rehoming fees.

Not only do we take in unwanted and abused pets, but we also rehab injured and ill animals, including turtle vs. car incidents. We have all appropriate licenses from the State of Ohio.

We are in the process of forming a 501(C)3 Foundation to allow us to provide a suitable facility to house these unwanted, deserted and abused animals. We have a 5-member Board of Directors in place and the paperwork is being prepared, but we need your help!!I

f you prefer to send a check directly and pass up the cool perks we are offering, PM me for details. I am committing $5K annually of my own money to make this happen. Please help.

Just to update, we have a week and a half left. Thanks to several In The Sulky members for their support. Yesterday a ten-year-old in Wisconsin donated her tooth fairy money.

I meet with the agent tomorrow to try to negotiate a lease.
Please help if you can. We have received our State of Ohio non-profit, with our 501c3 filing in progress

We had quite the iguana problem here a few years back.  People were buying them, didn't want to take care of them & just opening the back door.  They started breeding & there were thousands running around parking lots near lakes, living in trees...

And then we had a few very cold days.  They all disappeared almost overnight.  Nature handled that problem.

I've never been a big fan of any reptile.
While in Lake Charles Louisiana we rented a really nice town house right on a local bayou. Nextdoor neighbor had two kids in the 2 to 5yo range. One afternoon, broad daylight, a gator game up from the bayou and attacked the little girl. We saved her and killed the bastard although at the time they were protected. The yougster needed 37 stitches to sew up her arm and I'll be damned if the state didn't send a "wild life officer" to investigate the death of the gator. All she had to do was read the paper but there was no intimidation factor in doing something so simple.
You can be pretty sure there is tyranny in the country when the government pleads the fifth
Amendment !!
