More often than not, if you asked someone when the Kentucky Derby is run they immediately say "MAY" Some even say the "First Saturday in May"
Some may even know that is nicknamed "The Run for the Roses"
If you asked someone when is the Harness Racing Triple Crown; most answer "Didn't know they had one" Then you may say that they don't have one....they have two! Many Harness Racing fans and bettors alike don't even know that the horse their betting on may be either a trotter or a pacer, let alone knowing that EACH gait has it's own TRIPLE CROWN.
I live in Edgemont, PA about 20 miles from Harrahs formerly (Chester Downs) Most people at my gym know there is a Casino there and although there is racing from March to December never even knew there was a RaceTrack.
Last Year after 4 years of racing, I visited a picture framing shop less than 2 miles from the track to have some harness racing paintings framed.
The clerk new that Brandywine Raceway (30 miles away) closed in 1985 and she missed it. She went on to ask me if I knew where there is a harness racing track.
And USTA wonders why the sport isn't as popular as the Thoroughbreds.
About 5 years ago, I sent a letter to USTA and asked them to list on a
separate webpage designed only for the TRIPLE CROWN. List the dates
tracks, and from time to time the contenders, their schedule etc...
Not a big job.. Never even received a reply.
Trying finding the dates on GOOGLE! Lot of work!
I have seen TVG choose NOT to broadcast live a $80,000 Stake Race at a harness track and decided to show a delayed tape broadcast when there was about 6 minutes to post time at a Delta Downs $8000 claimer.
GO FIGURE!
