Cal Expo
« on: October 21, 2012, 03:03:38 PM »
So we had 22 qualifying races yesterday and it all went on without a hitch.  Looks like after another week of qualifying next Saturday, we should have decent fields for the first weekend of racing on Nov 2nd.  I have heard some midwest trainers have confirmed they will be coming out to Cal Expo in November and so when we go to 3 days of racing after Christmas, we should be good also.  And, the key is that TVG will be showing our races this season, so that should help the pools be decent for betting.  We start out with decent purses, compared to recent years, so hopefully they will get better as the season goes on.

Nice in depth review of the horses to keep an eye on from the first set of qualifiers last Saturday at Cal Expo on the Cal Expo Facebook page.

Good luck out there my friend. Many years ago we would attend maybe four or five cards per meet while living in Marin County (San Rafael). It, at that time, was a rather pleasant drive up to Sacramento. Don't know if I'd want to try the trip now at $4.00+ gasoline prices.

5 days until the new era of Cal Expo with new management!  There will be some new betting gimmicks, such as a .10 Hi-Five, and .50 pick-5 and pick-4 guarantees at 25K (all with a 16% takeout) to start.  The new management is embracing social media with a very interactive Facebook page, Ehrlich will be doing handicapping for each race on the in-house feed, and there is even talk that they want to get the drivers on Twitter...wouldn't that be cool if it happens!  Hopefully TVG does a good job with promoting the races also as that increases handle immensely.  Can't wait to get it going!

Sounds like they are getting off on the right foot , it's about time race track owners cared about their patrons and horsemen thumbsup

I have and will follow Cal Expo actually more than the Meds....

Last Spring I would record the Sat night races on TVG and with the big gurantee pool they did a fair job of splitting the publicity between them and Los Al quarter horses.

Best of Luck !

Good Luck Tonight Mr. B!  I'll have to make a bet on both of yours tonight, unless they are less than even money!
