Harrisburg, PA --- John Cancelliere figures when you spend a record $825,000 on a yearling, there is unlikely to be middle ground when pondering the potential outcomes.

Training since 2010?  It helps to have good stock.  My advice... Get a good smitty.  That will be $50,000.  Wire it to my bank.

My thoughts exactly. They lack the training experience to spend that kinda big money on horse flesh.

Oh man!  I don't care how much they cost, doesn't mean they will race and make tons of money!

It looks like they have  Chuck Sylvestor as an " advisor".  I'm sure he would get some compensation for helping out.  He is a damn good trot man.

IMO Sylvester is as good as it gets when to comes to trotters.

I hope the Cancellierie brothers have success with the record breaking purchase.

Ross Croghan had horses for the family and Tom spent several years working with hm to learn the business before getting his license. Still relatively green, but he did get the work in first.

Its one thing to spend $825  grand for a yearling and quite another to train him.

Me thinks they should hire a top notch trainer to train this youngun. Just saying.

how much of that is due to bettor sweet?

If they trained him all year 2011 stats excluding bettor sweet are 98 15 21 10 $386,746 .304  Still really good but the earnings per start goes way down.

Hope it works out well for them.

I wish them much luck; their success would be good for the sport. I'd advise them to keep Chuck Sylvester on speed dial. You don't win 4 Hambo's by accident.

If you can spend that kind of cash, why not train it themselves. obviously they can afford it.  and Chuck S on speed dial doesn't hurt

Not coincidentally, this is the last year one can depreciate the entire cost of a yearling on their 2011 income taxes. Will be interesting to see what happens next year after this law has expired.

I don't know nothing about that but I do know if you are spending what they

have in the past 5 or so years taxes is the last thing on your mind.

I think they have done OK with Bettor Sweet which they seemed to have

gotten a steal on at only 175K back in 2008.
