Wow...$825,000!!  shootme A true story from a drunken Old Gary D.

In or around 1972, Dickie Woods had an owner pay $210,000 for a yearling named Good Humor Man. When he was two or three in or around 1973 or 1974, I happened to be in the spitbox at Northfield with a mare named Miss Tree.

I stripped Miss Tree, took her harness outside of the stall to hand it on a nail,  and when I turned to hand it on a nail, I felt something hard hit the back of my thigh.

Tom Hansen, Frank Hansen's son, happened to be right behind me when I turned around. I said "you rotten motherf**ker.....", thinking he had hit me on the tender skin on the back of my thigh with a metal sweat scraper, which all sweat scrapers were back then.

Tommy said "What are you cussing me for? I didn't do anything!"

Turned out that Good Humor Man had won the first race and was walking behind me and when I turned around to tell the spitbox attendant that my mare would pee really fast, Good Humor Man kicked me in the back of the thigh....and very hard! >:(

Next day I woke up and could hardly walk. I had shorts on and someone said " WTF happened to your leg?"  Turned out that I was swollen and black and blue from the top of my thigh to my knee.

It then dawned on me what had happened.  idunno

Never did apologize to Tommy, so if you're still alive and reading this, sorry I accused you of hitting me. You still are a motherf**ker though...

I gotta go fire up the pipe (for medicinal reasons only) and have another glass of wine. Be back later.

I had my hand up at $850,000 and the damn auctioneer missed it. Oh well, that would have pretty well depleted the mil I had set aside for recreation. ...guess I'll just spend it drinking beer with Yeah Baby. 8)

Good Humor Man is featured on page of 56 pf Northfield Park Images of Sport (available from the author for $19.99, with a custom inscription ;)).
He earned a whopping $9,075 of that $210K back for Vern.

The Keeneland mixed sale saw a 4yo filly, Royal Delta, winner of the BC Ladys Classic sell earlier this week for the paltry sum of $8,500,000.00

There is money out there somewhere.
