I wanted to go to the nearby fair today to see specifically this 3 yr old that has already raced 25 times this year.

Always go to Cobleskill Fair the day of the races. Have my routine down and its a beautiful thing. Today was the big day.

Put my pencil in my pocket so I could mark down the winners and times of the miles. And off I went.
To avoid the $3 parking...every year I park my vehicle in the Rite Aid parking lot. I make it a point to stop in the store and tell the manager that my truck has mechanical issues and I will get it out of there ASAP. They always say...NO PROBLEM!

So off I went, walking across town. Cut behind some businesses and across the railroad tracks. Behind barn #3 there has been a hole in the fence for 20+ years. Easily accessible for an average size man. I walk through the brush, the golden rod weeds and no doubt a patch or two of poison ivy...and what do I see? Those rascals had patched up the fence on me.

I wasn't going the $7 to get in legally so, I did a u-turn and headed back to Rite Aid. Stopped in the store and told the manager "mechanic was here, we got 'er runnin"....He says to me...Boy that was quick!! LOL

And I came home. No races for me today.

Trust me you can't be as cheap as me.

I generally get press passes, as I said, but at Delaware, passes are much more difficult to come by. My buddy buys box seats all week right on the wire and he gives me passes, and another very, very dear friend gets me a parking pass.

Wooster fair I always volunteer for, so I get free passes there. At the Dover, Ohio fair, Jamie Coffy takes care of me. Once in a while the press b.s. doesn't work and I actually have to pay. That hurts. A lot!

COBLESKILL, N. Y., Sept. 30.

WITH the racing at the Cobleskill Fair on the added money plan and no deductions the campaigners manage to get a good start towards their winter oats fund here this week. Purses ranged from $560 upwards, with a $1,000 free-for-all topping the list. Good, clean competition featured the meeting. The fastest mile ever trotted over the track in a race was put to the credit of Fred Medium, the Canadian trotter, which went in 2:113/4.

Baron Forbes was the biggest winner of the week, taking the 2:10 pace on Tuesday and the free-for-all today. On the opening card, however, the 2:23 pacers showed more speed than the 2:10 class, a condition that is becoming quite common under the new classification. The Directum I., mare, Emma D., came out the winner after four heats, having paced one mile in 2:11. J. B. White won the other event on the card, the 2:15 trot, with Alvin Bond.

Cheerful Volo, owned by D. H. Blair of New York City, and driven by Andy Sands, won the most exciting race of Wednesday's program, the 2:25 trot. The event went to four heats. Fred Mediurn won the 2:20 trot, the first heat in 2:113/4. The Directum I. family continued prominent through the performance of Reuben Direct in the 2:16 pace.

Alvin Bond became a double winner by taking the 2:12 trot on Thursday. Major W. M. Halstead's Peter Stanford won the 2:17 trot after losing a heat to, Minstrel Man. Victoria Patch took the 2:20 pace first money home to Canada. Today Baron Forbes paced in 2:101/2 in the free-for-all while Signal Boy made the same time in winning the 2:14 pace. David Stearns won the 2:22 trot with Sheilah Frisco, which trotted in 2:123/4, close to her record.

The horsemen went away well pleased with the treatment of the management. Oscar S. Hurst, the race secretary, was in charge of the racing program, and while this was his first year in this position he did a good job of it.

Freelegged, Rite Aid's security camera doesn't support your account of what happened.  I guess, when the economy is brutal, people can do desperate things.  If you buy me a coke, with ice,  I won't send this photo to RTP.  Is that your truck seen over your left shoulder in to photo?

At our fair The Optomists Club works the gates. They are unpaid, but get a cut of every ticket sold. They are ruthless.

I was prepping the track for the day's races when I noticed the fuel was low, so I called the fuel company. Their truck was at the far corner of the county so I disconnected the Larcom & Mitchell conditioner and headed 2 blocks to the gas station. I pull back in with the tractor and the gate gal says, "That'll be $5." We argue a bit and she won't budge. So I finally said, "Look Lady, I've got keys to every lock on these 63 acres. I'll just back this sombitch up and drive down to that closed gate and go in there. Now get those cars behind me out of my way so I can back up." Since they couldn't sell any tickets with me blocking the gate, she finally gave in. But she still had to tell me it was my fault for leaving my gate pass in my truck.

thats the exact kind of fence at the fair. The bottom was pushed up about 2 feet. so you could get down on your stomach and sorta crawl under. We call that maneuver the
" Down low, 3 point, up and under wiggle". The move was invented and perfected by me. Note: Do not try the first time without having spotters to assist. This move is only for those professionally trained to do it.
