George was the upper middle-class black Archie Bunker. In an era of racial prejudice, those two men did more for civil rights than any politician ever did.

Ground breaking entertainment back in the day.   Among the main original cast members of the Jeffersons, they've all passed with the exception of Marla Gibbs (Florence, the maid) who is still alive at age 81.

Isabel Sanford (Weezie) died in 2004 at age 86
Roxie Roker (Helen) died in 1995 at age 66
Franklin Cover (Tom Willis) passed in 2006 at the age of 77
Paul Benedict (Bentley) died in 2008 and was 70
Mike Evans (Lionel) was only 57 when he died in 2006
Zara Cully (Mother Jefferson) was 86 when she died in 1978

I always thought Roxie Roker was super good looking.

One of my favorite scenes was when George and Archie were arguing about Jesus' ethnicity:

Everybody knows Jesus was a black man!

Now I've seen lots of pictures of Jesus and he was a white guy!

Naw, you was just looking at the negatives.

Roxie Roker and Beverly Johnson are like the ultimate in beautiful black women from the 70s.......and Roxie gave birth to Lenny Kravitz......she was awesome!
