Monday night handled was nearly double Saturday night.

So you are under the assumption that the fan base is fine and growing daily?

And I said too many tracks....aka, competing product that is out there.

If you stand in front of a wal-mart is any city or town and ask every person who enters the building "In a short sentence, how would you describe harness racing?"  You would get the following responses as a majority...

1.  What is what.
2.  Those guys cheat in every race.

Heck you could almost ask the question at the state capital or a state racing commission...and garner the same responses!!!

As to the too many tracks, even before there were too many tracks, in the early days of simulcasting (and since the collared peccary has an average lifespan of only 24 years, possibly before you were born) the bulk of dollars went to the quality product, usually t-bred races. So Saturday is a tough day for handle.
Going the opposite way, Northfield Park, where the fan base is not growing, still handles far more on Monday and Tuesday than on Saturday, to the point of not even racing live some Saturdays in order to be able to simulcast the quality t-bred product on those afternoons.

Plain and simply, though more people may show up at Northfield on Saturdays, there is less money bet on the live card. It is a very simple concept. People go to Northfield to bet the Big M and Mohawk on Saturdays.

Until Northfield raises the purses and puts on a quality show for the public, that is how it's going to be.

Northfield just sucks right now. The place is being run on a shoestring budget, and it is not going to get better until some casino company takes over. Hopefully Hard Rock goes completely bankrupt before they get the chance to take it over.

Really though, I understand the simulcast era put a few nails in the harness racing coffin, but by-jing, Northfield should be doing all they can to get people to wager on their product, handle is off from a year ago, real bad.

And the past 2 months the track has been unbetable.

Need change quickly!!!
