Wally's kicking fines were total bullshit. He brushed horse's hock with his foot... hardly abuse. Stabbing his ex-wife in the back with a steakknife is a totally different story.

I wish I had his driving ability, but I would never trade that for his demons.

During the hearing Jeff Pocaro positioned Case in front of a table with his foot up and out in front of him. He then explained that, contrary to the popularly held belief that Case kicked horses, the hind quarters of the horse actually came back and struck Walter's foot. So the horses were hitting Case; he wasn't kicking them.

 We had a driver (RIP) in Michigan that had polio when he was young and wore and brace.
 Frequently the judges would even fine him for not having his foot on the stirrups during the post parade.

 He paid his fines and grimaced, because he was merely trying to relieve some of the pain in his leg.

 Fifty lashes to me for mentioning Charlie Smith in the same thread as some putx whom has disgraced the sport.

All the naysayers and bigmouthed experts need to shut up!  Is Walter Case a saint?  absolutely not!  He WAS as druggie, bad person, terrible husband? all yes.....did he do his time,  clean up his life, remarry and is apparently on the right track? yes to all....was he a great driver (maybe the best of all time)?  yes again...so lets see....all yesses and no nays kinda looks like the yeas win.  His current wife and life are all positive.  In the interest of the sport he deserves another chance.  How many tank jobs did Carmine, Herve, Buddy Gilmour, Jumpin Jack Flash Moshie, Billy O and the rest of the "Glamour Guys" put over at Yonkers and Roosevelt over the years?  And now you have all the dopers running around from state to state "Stealing"  from the bettors...no not the INSIDE GUYS who make the big dough but the little guys like myself who used to be at the track every night betting our 2 dollar exactas and 1 dollar trifecta boxes....Haven't been to the track in over 10 years because the plethora of $6 exactas and $50 trifectas aren't worth betting on....Give the guy a chance!

Have to agree with you Wedgeclose. Give Walter a break. At least I never saw Walter slice or dice any horses. And to this day I think he was protecting himself when he stabbed his estranged wife....because she would kick nearly any dude's ass that I know.

I agree that brushing a hock with a boot is better than cutting them up. I won't argue the rule needs to be looked at.
But the rule is clear, he was told over and over again (and fined and suspended), yet kept doing it. A serial violator. And let's be frank, if it was these violations (and even a couple lack of efforts) the NFLD judges gave him that were his only issues, he would have a license.

Wedge, I got to respond, I knew Water when he was in diapers, and if you could have seen the upbringing he had it was a sin, what he did was not right, but with his ability it was second to none. I can only say this to all that read here Wedge has named a few names and I can attest to them plus many more, many a time I took money to Roosevelt for a Dancer whom I wont name, but lets just lighten up on the man and give him a chance, checks and balances are in place for many other drivers, and can be put in for him.
