Roger Clemens Not Guilty!
« on: June 18, 2012, 04:35:07 PM »
Nice job wasting taxpayers' money. Dumbass Feds.... I mean, who gives a shit if he injected himself, had some other dude inject him, or if he did not?

It's simply not our business what anyone else does, as long as we are not harmed by their actions.

I would think that his opponents that he was striking out for years would care if he was injecting himself with steroids to gain an unfair advantage. Not to mention baseball purists, fans of other teams, and MLB owners.

He got off, but so did OJ. I do agree it was a huge waste of tax dollars. He's already been tried in the court of public opinion. "misremembered" lol...

Of course, some were harmed by his actions.  Those that lost bets because  of his cheating, opposing players that lost games, pitchers who lost because of it.  It cost them all money.
I know the feelng when I lose a bet and see a horse come back to the winner's circle and he is breathing fire.  Sonoabitch! the horse was juiced.  One advantage of being at the track and getting a close look.  I saw him pitch when he was a young buck and saw him in his latter years.  There is no doubt in my mine that he was an abuser.  I'll never forget the year that Jason Giambi(steroid boy) beat Frank Thomas out of MVP.  Bastard cheated him out of it.  So, yeah, a lot of people are harmed by this.

First of all you are assuming he was guilty of something that he has been found not guilty of. Secondly, if he did use something illegal, do you seriously not believe every other great player in baseball was using it as well? I mean if a fellow can diagnose a juiced horse, he should be able to see all the other juiced horses in the race as well.

And here is the thing about juicers, both human and equine. If someone found that one thing that would make you stronger, younger, faster, etc, blah, blah, blah, how long could it be kept secret? Some greedy bastard would get fired from a job/traded from a team, and go tell the world what his former boss/teammates were using.

He was found not guilty of lying to Congress.  If you think he didn't use HGH and steroids, I have some swamp land to sell you in Florida.

No every player was not using it. Does every trainer juice?

Yuuup, that is usually what happens eventually.  That is why the Pena case is so confounding  As for baseball, everyone knew what they were using and, yes the users were stronger because of it.  Many I am sure felt like they had to use it to keep up and they paid with their lives.

Correct me if I am wrong.........but weren't steroids unregulated when Clemens pitched?

I understand him being brought up on charges for lying to Congress.........very bad thing we have to persecute in this country..............but in my opinion he should have never been in front of congress to begin with.

I'm going to equate it to EPO use.  As I have said before......many years ago horsemen and veterinarians alike considered it a beneficial but expensive medication........time proved otherwise and steps were taken to ban it in horse racing with stiff penalties.

What is the difference with the use of steroids in sports?

Their use was prohibited by the laws of the U.S.A.  Why should baseball or any sport have to "regulate" the use of drugs that are illegal anyway?  That is a lame excuse IMHO. Because of the abuse, baseball adopted other penalties in addition to any civil penalties the law breakers would iincure.   Of course, steroids can be used to treat certain medical conditions when prescibred by a physician, just like morphine can and some other controlled substances can.  The dose is much less than the law breakers were using illegally.  All sports have rules against doing something to regulate behavior that is detrimental to the sport.  Using illegal performance enhancing drugs is detrimental to any sport.
You can't compare using EPO in the past on horses if vets were doing it because it must have been legal then.  The baseball bandits knew full well that they were cheating.  Period.

Steroids were not illegal in the 1980s. Matter of fact in 1988, the feds decided to study steroids and in the early 1990s, they became a scheduled drug. They were invented for human use. They were also unregulated in horses, and many of us took advantage of that. They make non-eaters eat, they tend to help young horses physically mature, and they also make uninterested horses more interested in racing.

And I promise you, horses you owned back before the 1990s used steroids.  8)

?

I never knew this.

In fact I was under the impression they were legal sold in many body building supplements in places like GNC.

Yes they were invented for human use.  The Nazis used them to craze their soldiers up.  They became illegal around 92-93 and the dates I saw in the Clemons case were all well after that. Stop making excuses for the scumbag.  I saw Roger pitch live at old Comiskey Park the year he won his first Cy Young Award.  He was amazing and I doubt he was on steroids then. I remeber the White Sox had dismissed signing him in 96-97 because the GM at the time thought his best days were behing him.  He went to Toronto and lo and behold, an amazing resurgence. !!!!!! In 2005 he won his 3rd Cy Young almost 20 years after the first!!  Amazing, what longevity.  A 40 yr old pitching like a 20 year old.!!!

The stuff Mar Maguire was caught using and had a can of in his locker whenmaking his home run surge is the stuff they sold for body builders at GNC I think it was creatine, which had a very mild similar effect and maybe is 1% as effective as steroids.

Charlie Hough pitched just as good in his late 40s as in his late twenties too. I have met Charlie Hough and if he ever used anything stronger than an aspirin, I would be shocked.

I think Clemens is a teenage cheating jerk....................but steroid use before the MLB officially sanctioned regulations, far from warrants congressional interaction in my book.

I'm willing to bet most of them had no clue what they were actually doing to their bodies.

Comparing Hough to Clemons?  How many Cy Youngs did he win when he was in his 40's?  I saw Wilbur Wood start both games of a double header!  I don't think you can compare a knuckleballer to Clemons.  Heck Jamie Moyer is 49 and he started the season on the Rockies, but was later cut.

Clemons was 25 when he won his first Cy Young.  He was 43 when he won his last one. I'm sorry, I forgot that Roger was from Ohio.  Dem DAr Ohio boys can do no wrong!!! 8) 8) 8)

I don't think Roger started on steroids until 95-96 to resurrect his carrer- and it worked!!!(they were illegal then)  That skinny kid I saw pitch in the mid 80's wasn't on steroids.

If I had known how they'd make a man's testicles shrink, I'd have taken them years ago.

I've taken steroids(under medical supervision) for years.  No effect! (except, of course, for my buff body!) 8) 8) 8) 8)
