Stanley F. Bergstein, a legend in horse racing for his knowledge, writing, and involvement in more facets of the sport than probably anyone else, died peacefully at home in Tucson, Ariz., at 4 a.m. Wednesday morning (Nov. 2). At his side was his son Al, Al's wife Megan, and a hospice care specialist. Daughter Lisa and her husband Craig, along with grandson Michael Hentshel,  were also in Tucson for the end of Stan

Sad to read this today. I really enjoyed reading Mr. Bergstein's non-harness racing columns in Gaming Today, a weekly paper out here in Nevada.

 There was an extensive article on Stan in the Feb 1994 Hoof Beats by Dean Hoffman.

       I tried to locate the reference and was unable.
Some time back I found a reference to the location of a early military Fort in Chicago.

 The location of the reference to the fort was in doing a google on either the old HRI or HTA office in Chicago.

 Stan got a nice laugh out of spending those years in that building and never knowing he was on the property of the old military fort.

 The damned name escapes!
 I found one reference to Fort Dearborn, however not sure that it. I saved the article in my horse stuff and just unable to locate it.

RIP Mr.  Bergstein.  Condolences to his family.  Did not always agree with him but always respected him.  Few of his kind left.  RIP Sir.
