Title: Shame on the NFL NHL and other dumb employers ...
Post by: NIATROSS on September 25, 2012, 06:34:07 AM
shame on the nfl it is time for the replacemet refs to go back to foot locker as i read elsewhere

shame on the nfl the nhl and other dumb employers
asking your employees to take about a 25% cut in pay like the nhl during a time of prosperity is just plain stupid imo
this is not a business where the talent level is in surplus
there were plenty of times in over 30 yrs where i supervised up to and over 100 employees at once  and there were plenty of times i asked to forgo a raise or gave of my own pocket to make sure those who deserved got what they deserved

the nfl in an effort to cut the refs pay no matter what they are trying to call it is a farce
raking in billions in net revenue and trying to save thousands is a joke

i have been reading that over 200 million $$$ was lost on last night's bad call  any money made in cutting the refs pay will cover what the nfl has lost to it's rep

Wow!  Even as a Bears fan, I feel for you Niatross and the rest of the Packers faithful as well.  Tough pill to swallow.  Can't really blame the interim refs...for them its a opportunity to do something they otherwise might not be able to do.  Blame the NFL brass.

Sad thing is  even if they get the deal done this week    gonna take another week  possibly two weeks for the regular refs to come back. With physicals and them getting fitted for new uniforms  since i think Nfl with nike now. So long reebok.

The only way you can do something is stop watching or talking about the NFL.

When this costs them money it will be noticed.

Until it hits them in the wallet they wont care.

Really?  Are you saying that being a totally incompetent moron is acceptable in any line of work?  Your standards are pretty low.

Put these 4th quarter gifts together:

1 - "Roughing the passer" on the interception that would've sealed it.
2 - 32 yard Pass interference penalty on 2nd & 30(?) that was clearly offensive PI.
3 - Ignoring the offensive PI in the end zone.
4 - Ignoring the only official who got it right.
5 - Reviewing the play & coming to that home-field decision.

That's too many horrendous calls in favor of one team.  I would not rule out the possibility that one or more of the refs either had a bet on the game or was a Seahawks fan.

Even with regular refs I think there is plenty of crooked hi-kinks going on.  The regulars are just so much more professional about it.  Basketball season will start soon.   rflmao1

No, I'm not saying being a incompetent moron is acceptable.  I:m just saying these fellas got a chance to do something in life that most can only dream about.  They and their employers evidently believed them competent enough.  They blew it, Packers were robbed and what more can one say?  I have to think they feel bad about it now.  If not, then they are indeed incompetent morons as stated.

Just read that the ball they used for the Packers' 2 point try was a "kicking ball", one of the new, slick ones.  Rodgers said "it would've been nice if they had given me a game ball to use".  Not a real excuse but when you are used to one thing & all of a sudden that changes, it can throw you off.

Anyway, now Peyton, Brady & Rodgers are all 1-2.  Brees is 0-3.  idunno

I do not completely blame these officials because they are being asked to do something that they just are not prepared or good enough to do.  I believe that most of the blame falls on the NFL and the owners. Who in their right mind thought that NCAA Division II, Division III and NAIA officials would be be able to handle officiating the best players in the world?  I do not understand why a deal was not made with the NCAA to allow the Big 10, SEC, Big 12 etc, to officiate these games until the regulars were back.  I am not saying that they would be as good as they regular officials but they surely wouldn't be as bad as these guys are.  Even the regulars miss calls but they do not miss that call last night.  To me, its not even about the missed calls as much as it is the lack of control they have over the game, they have zero control of these games and its ruining the product on the field.

The Current NCAA refs told the NFL they would not do the games. Some want to eventually make the jump to the NFL, and didn't want to be replacements refs and then never get accepted by the regular officials.

Correct, they are separate from the on field officials. When the on field official goes under the hood, HE makes the final decision, not the replay official. All the replay official can do for the replacements ref's is try to guide them. He has no decision making on the play

NFL's most obvious admission: The lockout/strike is over.  They're scrambling, trying to get the "real" officials back on the field this week.

Side note: Phil Luckett was the Replay Official, overseeing the calls and said he "didn't see enough to convince" him to change the ruling Monday night.  Same Phil Luckett who is credited with calling a non-touchdown by Vinnie Testaverde, a touchdown which brought back Replays.  Also same Luckett who heard Jerome Bettis incorrectly on a coin toss which led the Lions to victory over the Steelers & eventually led league to call "heads or tails" in advance.

Can someone tell me what the refs make per game, and what they're holding out for? I have no idea. I do know that the top level ones are way better than the subs... but that's in every profession.

From what I've read, they make $150,000 - $175,000 per season & fly 1st class.  Additionally, there is apparently a pretty comfortable retirement plan.

My brother is a superintendent at a large construction company. A few years ago he ran a job where an NFL ref was working as a carpenter. He didn't know the guy was a ref until he asked for a day off. He was working the Thanksgiving game in Detroit and the league required him to be there by noon Wednesday for meetings etc.

The figure above seems high IMO given that most refs have other jobs. I'm sure you can Google to find out. There is also likely to be a mention of the wages on the news now that they have settled.

Compensation for the officials will increase from an average of $149,000 a year in 2011, to $173,000 in 2013, and capping at an average of $205,000 by 2019.

Yikes! Where do I sign up?  idunno

The refs should get around $200,000 per year.  If people are worried that horsemen will cheat because the purse is far below what they can win at the windows, I would worried about a ref making a few grand per game where one close call means millions of dollars are changing hands.
