Short in his "shorts" 1940
« on: October 23, 2011, 01:36:33 PM »
The Aug 28, 1940 Harness Horse contained an article of three Ohio accidents, and although accidents are never funny, the resulting presentation was.

In the concluding heat of the $1,000 pacing stake, Adam Volo stumbled and turned completely over, throwing Harry Short, the latter falling on the rear feet of the gelding. As Harry scrambled over the body of the horse to reach his head and hold him down, Adam Volo's shoes evidently tore his uniform as when he arose both legs of the trousers were torn from crotch to the ends and the sight of the popular driver, bare limbs exposed, was so amusing that some wag shouted, "There's Short in his shorts," as the dainty white "undies" were visible to all. After righting the gelding, Harry retired across the infield and later returned with a natty, new outfit.
