Interfered by a starting gate. Thats a first for me.

The #7 interfered badly by the gate and still wins the race at 37-1.

I didn't witness this, but one time my brother was driving one and right before the start the gate shucked a transmission and hopped & jerked to a halt. Nobody went down, but he said it was total chaos when the horses were banging into each other behind the dead gate.

Quite a few people who I spoke to who saw the video of the race said the race should have been declared null and void and the moneys refunded.

With the interfered horse winning the race, it was a different situation altogether I suppose.

HMMMMM...even with starting gate interference the 7 goes to the lead and wins at 37-1 things that make you go HMMMMM.

So he was 37-1....8 wide in the turn, 3 deep down the backside and won like he was the 1/5 shot. That may never happen again!!

An odd phenomenon, but the track was extremly greasy and deep in the lower half of the track. A horse that gets hung-out actually has the best footing under those conditions, and tires less. That might have been the answer.

I saw Ken "The Tobacco Spittin' Genius" Rutherford win a huge trotting stake race at Sportsmans once under those same conditions. He was 3 wide in the 1st turn, got to the the lead and didn't drop to the rail. Everyone else took the short route. He stayed in the 3 hole (as the announcer decried the bad drive) and drew away in the stretch to get all the cheese.

I saw JD Wengerd drive one sort of like that. He was three wide most of the mile, but he finished last. Oh, and it was a fast track and the starting gate got out of the way easily.
