I remember playing these Horse racing machines many years ago in Vegas. The one I remember at The Stardust had videos of Quarter Horse races. I played the damn thing so much I would know if I won or not before the start of the race because I recognized the videos as soon as they started.

Hopefully, this will help the industry.  It sounds like this has been successful elsewhere.

What I'm unsure of is the demographic that this will attract.  People who don't want to wait 15 minutes between posts have other simulcast options.  Real players probably wouldn't want to play this unless it's 3AM and no other racing is available.  Novices might drop a few bucks into this, but that probably isn't sustainable.  Tonyb (who is also a real player) has learned his lesson.  The only people left are slot players who might feel intimidated betting on the real product; they might opt for the faux product.

Thoughts?

it has been a huge success and drving force at oaklawn for yrs.
recently it has been a success at kentucky downs and not so at ellis park.
no real competition at ky downs.casinos in both indiana and illinois are within a hr of ellis
i think it will be a success in lexington

Obviously the hope is to get real slots at the Kentucky tracks. This is just the lube before they really shove it up the gamblers asses.

The "instant racing" machines were approved overwhelmingly by the Senate and House in Michigan a little over a year ago.  The Governor and Attorney General however tanked it and would not sign it claiming it was unconstitutional.  Just another victory for the casinos.
