Pick4 Challenge - USA vs. Canada
« on: February 23, 2014, 06:16:17 PM »
Let's have a little fun with an ITS pick4 challenge.

Here are the rules:

There will be two challenges, one for the USA (Meadowlands) and one for Canada (Woodbine).  The winner of each challenge plus one wild card winner will face off in the finals.

The goal is to accumulate the highest net "winnings" at Wdb, M1, or both; regardless of how many rounds you participate in.

To play, you must select a pick4 ticket consisting of a single in one leg and then go four choices deep in the other three legs.  (Example: your ticket should look like 1/23810/3469/23710…or 1246/2389/4/1237…etc.).  Your score will be determined by your net “winnings” (dollars, not percent).

The grand prize will be a $32 wagering credit that will be applied as a $64 pick4 ticket of your choice (1x4x4x4 or some permutation of that), in which I will spend $64 on and go 50/50 with the winner.

Prior to the finals, just post your tickets prior to the first leg of the pick4 going off in either challenge.

I reserve all rights to change the rules or cancel the challenge at my discretion.

Contest Dates

Practice Round
Mon 2/24: Wdb EP4 and LP4
Thu 2/27: M1 EP4 and LP4

Round 1
Fri 2/28: Wdb EP4 and LP4
Sat 3/1: M1 EP4 and LP4

Round 2
Mon 3/3: Wdb EP4 and LP4
Thu 3/6: M1 EP4 and LP4

Round 3
Fri 3/7: Wdb EP4, M1 LP4
Sat 3/8: Wdb EP4, M1 LP4

Finals (Special rules TBD)
Sat 3/15: Wdb EP4, M1 LP4 (with special tiebreaker rules, TBD)

Good luck!

If you have any questions, post them here.

Addendum

1. Any late scratches that you pick will result in you receiving the post time favorite.  And yes, you may hit the p4 more then once on the same ticket if your leg with 4 choices consists of a favorite that wins and a scratched horse in the same leg.

Sounds like fun, I'll have a look at Monday's card and post my picks tomorrow afternoon.

I've always felt that a savvy capper could turn a long term profit on the pick4 at M1 and Wdb, where the races are competitive and the pools are large.

I also believe that some of our ITS posters are pretty darn good at finding the "singles" in the pick4 sequence.  Off the top of my head, RocknRoll and Brush and Crush are two of the best that I know.

IMO, the real art to hitting a sizable pick4 involves finding the leg where you can key one or two horses, allowing you to go deeper elsewhere to catch a bomber.  That, and a little luck, of course.

I originally wanted to create a challenge where the contestants just picked the single amongst the 4 legs of the pick4 (and not pick the other 3 legs).  But I think it adds a little excitement to actually pick and hit the pick4.  (I'll be playing my tickets.  Hopefully, others will be playing theirs, especially with the 20 cent mins at Wdb.)

Let's see how it goes.

What a cluster f**k of a first race. Phil Hudon picks up the pieces of the "we only know how to drive on top" race that lasted three quarters of a mile.

Sad thing is that I put some $$$ on the 10 and that little "break" probably cost him race.

Never saw that before! In the last race the "photo finish equipment didn't function" so the Judges used their opinion and camera angles to determine that the 4 horse won the race.

 slaphead

Just wow.... Nice driving Jody in race 8.... Pulls the pocket with nothing and holds up my horse. And how the hell does that pig wire the field when speed hasn't been holding up all night? He hasn't won in almost TWO years!
