Phil Robertson (Duck Dynasty)
« on: December 21, 2013, 07:16:55 PM »
I have seen Phil Robertson's comments that he made to the GQ magazine reporter. I really see nothing inflammatory about these comments, though I do not totally agree with what he had to say.

As I have said for years: let gay folks marry. Phil quotes the Bible, but to my knowledge, Jesus never said a word about gay people. People interpret the Bible differently. Very conservative churches view it as the literal word of God. I personally think it was written by men. Some may have been inspired by God, some of it might not have been.

What I have gotten from the Bible is that Jesus is all about love, forgiveness, faith, and hope. I cannot believe that people will go to a place like Hell because of their sexuality.

Phil reiterated that he does not hate anyone nor judge anyone. He just tells people what he believes to be true. He is very passionate about his beliefs. For A&E to dump the man for his beliefs is unconscionable.

In closing, In The Sulky's official position is that A&E needs to STFU and let Phil preach what he believes. What he said was little different than you hear in many churches ever week.

Hey Gary,
Religion and politics are taboo in any conversation ;)

I'm hardly a bible scholar, however suggest you review Sodom and Gomorrah, "gay" wasn't exactly a used term in the time of the Roman Empire, and/or before.

Everyone knew his feelings before the interview so I don't think people should really have an issue with him saying it.  Those that watch the show were not going to be surprised by his comments and I doubt many if any will stop watching the show because of them.  The people that don't watch the show or disagree with his opinion shouldn't concern themselves with what he has to say.  I don't get why some people feel the need to be offended every chance they get.  If I was gay I would not want straight people, especially strangers, getting offended on my behalf.

there is no freedom of speech in this country for certain groups.  Phil belongs to one of those groups that is not allowed freedom of speech.  I have never watched the show.  Looks stupid to me. However, I do think people have a right to believe what they want.  Why is it that members of certain groups can make all kinds of inflammatory remarks, no matter how racist or anti-semite they may be.  But, if you happen to not accept the current P/C thinking on homosexuality, well forget about it.  I agree with Gary that the message I get from the Bible if one of forgiveness and tolerance.  I may think of homosexual behavior as a sin, but, being a sinner myself, I'm not about to judge others.  All this P/C crap makes me sick.

I know all about Sodom and Gomorrah but Jesus Himself never once addressed the subject of homosexuality. Truly He taught us to love one another.... We are definitely not supposed to judge others.   nononono

For those who haven't heard, Washington State passed two landmark laws: "Gay marriage" and the "Legalization of marijuana" on the same day.
The fact that gay marriage and marijuana were legalized on the same day makes perfect biblical sense because Leviticus 20:13 says:
"If a man lies with another man they should be stoned."

We just hadn't interpreted it correctly!

Phil Robertson has always been his own man. He was all state in High School football and baseball. Highly recruited, he went to Louisiana Tech where he was a standout quarterback for the Bulldogs for three years. His 4th year he decided that football season interfered with duck hunting season so he quit the team to hunt ducks. This left a spot open for his sub, a no-name called Terry Bradshaw.(of 4 Super Bowl rings fame)

Disappointed in the quality of commercial duck calls, he designed his own and built an empire named Duck Commander specializing in high-end, handmade calls and videos to improve people's duck hunting experience. Phil and family became multi-millionaires from this endeavor. It's not uncommon for Phil to walk into his factory during their busiest season and shout, "C'mon boys, let's go hunting!" They shut off all the equipment and go hunting with Phil. It drives family/management nuts, but that's Phil.

He won't be flustered by A&E either.

ps I've never seen the show because I don't have cable, but I've read Phil's bio.

Gary,
Sodom and Gomorrah are in the Old testament and there's no mention of Jesus, there is mention of a Messiah that followers of the Old Testament faith believe still hasn't happened.

That same Old Testament is where you may find and eye-for-an-eye, and stoning people, and many more oddities.
There's even a portion in there where a man leaves his family and is supposed to relocate to the "wilderness" and the animals (course horsey folks been doing that for centuries).

I think the man is entitled to his opinion and said nothing wrong. I'm not agreeing or disagreeing just saying that's what he thinks and we are all entitled to our own opinions, that's why we live in the U.S.A. ! He made no mentions of lesbians which if they are good looking no man I know of objects to.  noway
And like JS mentioned Terry Bradshaw was his backup QB in college. I don't really like the show, I watched a few episodes and it's kinda silly and cheesy to me but come on there are much more important things to raise a stink about.  slaphead I like honest people and this dude don't shower for weeks during hunting season and admits it, go knock some politicians who fu*ked up our economy and leave stinky Phil alone.  birdienana birdienana birdienana

i love it when people say they do not judge anyone and are just expressing their opinion
one's opinion is a judgement plain and simple

on the otherhand i agree people are entitled to their opinions no matter the subject

it makes me laugh that people are shocked when shit like this comes to light.try spending some time down south and you will see racism still exists vs the blacks
and the same exists up north in some lily white neighborhoods

Sure, I guess any opinion is a judgement call.  What I am saying is that I do not want to get involved in judging what the punishment, if any , should be.  Who is to say what sin is worse than another?  I'll leave that to the Big Guy.  Racism will always exist as long as there are different races.  Most people I know are not really racist.
It all depends on how you define it. It is not related to any one race.  As of now, more whites are racist because there are more whites here.  If Hispanics become the majority, then most racists will be Hispanic, if Blacks became the majority they would have the majority of the racists also.  I always try to judge anyone as an individual, race, religion, ethnic background , sexual orientation, should not matter.
