Meadowlands Racetrack Race 11, Saturday 12/7
« on: December 08, 2013, 07:56:40 AM »
Extremely short trifecta and even the exacta doesn't look good.   Anyone wanna try to defend this.   All 8 drivers and trainers in this race should be set down.

HN    Horse    Driver   Win    Place    Show
4    Fat Mans Alley    Tim Tetrick   25.40    7.80    5.80
3    Arockin Hanover    Scott Zeron       45.80    7.80
1A    Meirs Hanover    Yannick Gingras           2.60
Win, Place, Show Pool: $53,372
 Wager Type    Numbers/Payouts   Pool
 Exacta    (4-3 $464.80)   $41,668
 Trifecta    (4-3-1 $1,604.20)   $32,707
 Superfecta    (4-3-1-6 $354.94)   $16,927
 Pick 3    (5-1-4 $196.90)   $9,239

First off there are only 7 trainers as there was an entry as cashman stated.

Second if there was going to be a race where two favorites would battle for the lead and tire, this would have been it.   The trifecta payoff wasn't any more short than the exacta.

Fat Mans Alley was a pick by one of the Meadowlands handicappers.

I also don't think there's anything ridiculously bad about those prices in a seven horse (betting interests) field. It was far from a line-em-up like that Yonkers race last week.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, nowhere have I been screwed on prices over the years like at the Big M.  The very reason some like to bet the Big M ,large pools,  is the very reason it is a prime area for skullduggery. It amuses me that some think there are all kinds of shady practices going on at puny tracks like Northfield, Balmoral, and Freehold, but buy into the crap that the Big M is as pristine as mountain spring water.  Oh, I know Gural is trying to clean up the cheaters.  Maybe he is, but he hasn't come close to accomplishing his goal.  I don't think this particular race was much of a screw job, but watch out.  You play with fire you are going to get burnt.

Hal there's a big difference between the Meadowlands and Bal/Northfield/Freehold  .......... do you really think Tetrick/Yannick/Campbell/Pierce/Callahan/Miller ect.. are going to risk their careers by stiffing a horse to cash ? these guys make millions compared to the C and D drivers at the other tracks you mentioned.

Im sure they will race one easy here or there but there is no shot they're stiffing one to get the money.

As for Balmoral why wouldn't you stiff one to get the money ? they race for no purses , 99.9% of the drivers are there for life because they can't make it anywhere else.

i used to think more cheating went on because of the small purses and pools
now i think the bigger purses and handle have as much or more cheating going on then the small ones
you just have to do it less times

All I can say is that some of the top drivers in the sport have gone down on race fixing charges.  This includes drivers currently racing.  I'm not going to mention names because I really don 't want to argue the merits of each incident.  It is much easier to fix a race in this day and age by chemical means as opposed to drivers orchestrating a race.  The bigger the handle the more ill begotten gaines to be made.  Cheating at the Big M would be much more lucrative than at Balmoral , Northfield or the Meadows. Let me say that if I thought cheating was the norm, I'd never make a bet. I think cheating exist in all sports, it's sort of given that someone will always try and get an advantage.

To fix a race you're gonna need a lot of things go just right and you're gonna need some partners.

Just like back when Parker and Morrill got grabbed at Freehold they got busted only after the bettor tried to cash for 24K

Both were and I think still are barred from the Meadowlands except for stake races .

Pretty sure they both drove there in last couple years and they weren't stakes races.

You could be right ..... Parker has 1 start at the Meadowlands since Jan 1 , 08 and Morrill has 180 (avg 30 a year ) in that same time frame ...... all 3 had a 6 month ban but Brennan  was the only one who didn't take the deal that was offered by the state of Nj..... claiming he was  innocent .
