That was nasty and it looked like a horse broke at the same spot the 1st time around.

I hope all drivers and horses are OK.

Is it just me or do most accidents occur on a turn and are caused by a horse in the outer flow. Usually in the last turn when they are tiring.

As a driver I always wondered why they had to fall in, instead of out. There's nobody to stomp you on the outside.

MANZI & GREGORY INJURED IN FOURTH RACE SPILL

 

MANALAPAN, NJ – September 6, 2013 – Drivers Cat Manzi and Jeff Gregory are in area hospitals with fractures after being involved in a multi-horse accident in the fourth race on Friday, September 6, 2013 at Freehold Raceway.

 

Manzi, 63, a Hall of Fame driver with 14,789 career victories, was taken to Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune, NJ where it was determined he has fractures of the pelvis on both sides, according to his wife, Ellen Manzi.

 

Gregory, 47, with 6,635 career victories, has a broken left elbow, according his wife, Helene Gregory.  He was taken to CentraState Medical Center in Freehold, NJ.

 

All the horses were reported to be okay.

 

The spill began at the top of the stretch when Matt’s Smokin Lil, driven by Gregory of East Windsor, NJ, fell, setting off a chain reaction.  Manzi, who resides in Freehold, NJ, was unseated while driving Fantail Hanover

 

Also not finishing the race were Vincent Ginsburg with My Op Doll, and Jack Baggitt Jr. with Look Siera.

 

Only three horses contended for the finish:  Superstar Dream with Eric Abbatiello was the winner over Dawg’s Buddy and Messie Hanover.

Yeah, but they often fall in on the flat stretches too. Just Murphy's Law I guess, but it sure is painful when you're under those hooves. If they fall out you get road rash... in you get broken bones. The only blessing is that it happens so fast you don't have time to worry about it.

Always amazed that so many people are willing to drive in these races.

It is on e of the most dangerous things a person can do.

Kudos to them for having the balls and intestinal fortitude to do it. Sometimes 15-20 times a day.

I am still too afraid to jog one on a farm.
