Geez....I read the title of this thread "Balmoral 5/8" and it brought back memories of when the Crete oval was a 5/8th mile track......anybody else remember that?  Going back even further how about Balmoral as a 1/2 miler?

Never raced on the 1/2 at Blmpk, but raced a bunch on the 5/8. For a while the 5/8 and miler were both used at the same time... miler for day races (no track lights originally) and the 5/8 for night races.

....but you Do remember it, right, JS!   I can't be THAT old can I?   Back in the day I actually had the opportunity to announce some races 'live' when it was a 1/2 mile track - still remember King Selka with Charlie McDermott as the driver, winning one night.   Not sure why that one sticks in my head but it does!

You can also remember A.J. Foyt, Parnelli Jones, Roger Ward, Jim McElreath, Jim Hurtubise fruitlessly chasing the perennial #1 white 110 Offy of Mel Kenyon around many a bullring.

Jeez, you ARE old! 8)

Must have been around the 1/2mile oval a Few thousand times.  I remember being out there when the temps were near zero.  No fancy winter gear back then.  Wore my rubberized fishing coat and bib pants over my parka, long underwear and flannel lined jeans.  I can still feel the cold over 40 years later.
