The Tracks Getting The Shaft It Appears
« on: October 17, 2011, 09:52:18 AM »
The great Gov. Quinn has come out from behind the curtain and announced today that racinos are not in his plans. Some new casinos in Chicago and elsewhere. Maybe someone with more computer skills than myself can get the press conference put up for all to hear but unless horseracing is going to actually get the 15% from the new casino it may be all over. I always thought my home state of Indiana was backwards when I was growing up but Illinois takes the cake. I hope theres some good news being left out..stay tuned and good luck illinois horsemen.

Yeah, I heard he said his plans were to take the 'slots at the tracks' out of the bill.(casino campaign donations speaking loudly) Also the % we won in court from the existing casinos is going to be run through the state treasury before it gets to the purse funds, UNLESS IT MIGHT GET USED FOR MORE IMPORTANT GOV ISSUES, of course we get the obligatory promise to recieve it when they get state finances fixed. We're screwed.

That's why 99 out of 102 IL counties voted against the crooked bastard.

Of course it's not a done deal, just what the yahoo says he wants.  We can only hope that the tracks will end up getting some of the casino money if not slots at the tracks.

I remember reading many times some politician saying the bill would never muster enough votes without the tracks getting help..hope this is true so Quinn either takes it all or gets nothing including his chicago casino..then lets see him attempt to balance a budget...anyone who voted for this clown shame on you..the Republican guy couldnt be any worse could he ?

Quinn opposes slot machines at racetracks
By DEANNA BELLANDI - Associated Press

CHICAGO -- Gov. Pat Quinn won't support slot machines at Illinois racetracks but he signed off Monday on five new casinos in the state, including one in Chicago, when he outlined the framework for an expansion of gambling he could support.

Of course the new casinos can't hurt the tracks, can they?  DOOFUSS

Quinn's proposal also doesn't include slot machines at Chicago's O'Hare and Midway airports, something lawmakers approved. He urged lawmakers to craft a new bill and not pursue the one they have passed because he said he would veto it if it's sent to him.

"Unless these principles are followed, there's no way I will approve a bill," Quinn said at a Chicago news conference. Lawmakers approved a massive gambling expansion bill in May but have never sent it to him because they feared his veto.

Sponsors of the bill have previously warned that major changes to the legislation, which enjoys strong support from Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel, could sink it. One of the chief sponsors, Democratic Rep. Lou Lang of Skokie, was not immediately available for comment.

Despite Quinn's suggested changes, he said he was amenable to allowing five new casinos - one each in Chicago, southern Cook County, Rockford and Danville and Lake County. Although, Quinn said he wants the Illinois Gaming Board to choose the location in Lake County rather than award a casino to the town of Park City as lawmakers wanted. He didn't explain why.

Quinn's other changes included regulatory adjustments that would put a Chicago casino under the thumb of the Illinois Gaming Board, like the state's other casinos, rather than allow local oversight.

The governor said not allowing slots at tracks is a way to avoid over saturation in the market and hurt other casinos. Race track officials have said they need slot machines at tracks to make them competitive with other states because the added revenue would fatten purses in races.

Quinn said it's important that lawmakers pass a good gambling expansion bill, unlike the one they signed off on in May that he says has major flaws.

"We're not going to do it wrong the first time, we're going to do it right the first time and the only time," he said.

I agree.

Unless the tracks get their own racinos they will never see any of the money from the new casinos.

Story I read yesterday ranked IL the worst state at paying it's bills in a timely fashion.

I trust representative Lou Lang like I'd trust a hungry lion if I was wearing Lady Gaga's meat dress. I remember when he unexplainably didn't offer the gaming bill (which he had all the votes he needed for approval) last session before adjournment. He's a snake.

think the problem there JS was that both he and Cullerton realized he, Quinn,  would veto the bill as written and they would not have the votes to override the veto...At least that is what I read.
I could have been a contender

Quinn's arrogance has reached new heights.   Total disregard for the Legislature.   People elect Senators and Representatives - they came together and passed a bill.   Quinn thumbs his nose at the bill.   Complete Dictator....what a joke and what a shame the people of Illinois have to put up with another corrupt and arrogant Governor.  I may not live in Illinois now but my kids do, and they're voters...of course with a Dictator drinking from the public trough as he is, why bother to vote?

The hard facts are there is little reason for people to even vote in Illinois.  I know my vote won't count and none of the candidates I support will win.  In the last election my congressional district went back to the Republican ranks after being taken by the Dems in the Obamaslide.  Now they are gerrymandering the district to include hunks of the City Of Chicago to pull it back into the Democratic fold.  Totally insane as it goes as far west as Lasalle-Peru.  But, now it looks like we will be represented by a machine political hack.  >:(
