Nice start of the day!
« on: September 10, 2012, 07:06:03 AM »
Went to Lexington last night with Buckeyewon. He raced three rats and didn't do very good. We got back to Wilmington about 2 am and I drove to Wooster, getting in at 5 am.

So I got to sleep at 5:30 and at 8:00, my nephew came downstairs and woke me up. My sister came inj at 9:30, and my mother took her two sons to the fair. Seconds later, they came back in and told me my mother had wrecked her car in the driveway....into my beloved Sonata.

I went outside and looked-how she hit it is beyond my comprehension. My back bumper has a few scratches. Her bumper is is ruined completely, and it is a unibody type bumper that will surely cost over $1000 to fix.

Of course she was shook up and I started laughing. She said "How in the hell is my bumper totally ruined and yours only scratched?" I said "Because you buy American junk!"

No but I got her good later. My niece was playing in a band concert at the fair. I got there right before she played. Anyway afterwards my mom told me she didn't think I was going to make it in time to watch my niece.

I told her with a straight face that I'd had to get a cab to the fairgrounds because my transmission had apparently been knocked out when she rammed my car. That is not a nice thing to do to a 75 year-old woman.

Told her I would most likely have to buy a new car because that one was scratched now. Then she knew I was bullshitting her.  ::)

I have a 2007 Mazda equipped with one of those "unibody" type bumper. Had a disagreement with a parking lot 'bumper' at the loacal Cracker Barrel couple of months ago. Total cost was $562 (if the support brackets can be reused).
The people at CB were great and I had a check in hand three days after submitting an estimate.
Was in Lexington this morning and on the way out decided to stop at Keeneland to look over the September Sale field. The Arabs had already arrived : ) They park their 747's across Versailles Road at the outlying reaches of Bluegrass Field.
If you'd like to see and sell money you have to attend a Keeneland sale. Got to talking to a guy, who as it turned out was an agent for several potential buyers. On a whim I picked a hip # out of his catalog and asked for his opinion of the colt. He had bid on it for some guy in California but stopped, per the buyers request, at $425,000. Did say he bought one for a Canadian family for "over $300,000.
Great place at sales time

Danville, I went to that sale once with a great friend of mine who taught at UK. We had on jeans and polo shirts and got stopped by two giant gorillas in tuxes at the entrance. They asked, "Can we help you gentlemen?" I explained that I just wanted to see that sale for the 1st time, and the guy said, "Not without a jacket and tie." So we headed back to my Bud's pickup, when a super sweet helicopter sets down with an arab prince in robes gets out with his entourage and walks up to the entrance. Of course they welcomed him. I told G.T. I was going over and bitch about him not having on a jacket or tie.

He replied, "Get your ass in that truck before we get killed!"

We ended up at The Red Mile and had a blast.

Our trip was 30 years ago and that was the rules then. No idea what they are now. I don't blame them not letting fiff-raff like me in there, especially since I had no money.
