Won The West
« on: August 05, 2012, 05:50:31 AM »
Buck I St Pat was retired last October after a sub-par effort in the Allerage mare trot at the Red Mile. Can we expect a similar announcement about WTW? He remained last throughout the USPC yesterday; Bartlett made an effort to go on with him past the half but there was nothing there. He finished last at 84/1. It's probably time to call it a career.

Totally agree. Just not competitive anymore. Eventually, all those tough miles catches up and that sure looks like what has happened.

I believe he is very close to 4 million.

Maybe they are trying to get to the number then retire.

Was kind of sad for a horse with 4 million in the bank to go off 50-1 or whatever he was.

Best looking Standardbred I ever saw, and I've seen a bunch. I'm sure he'll get a lifetime of green pastures, he's earned it. With his demeanor he'd make great pleasure horse. I can't say enough good things about Won The West. I also wouldn't be suprised if he had a long layoff and came back to racing and was a tough rascal again... he loves to race. His connections know that all those monster miles have taken a toll and they look after him pretty damn good. I'm sure that they are proud to have one of the best to ever look through a bridle.

Won The West needs another 60K to hit four million in earnings and another 340K to hit Gallo

My all-time favorite horse to watch race and cheer down the stretch! If he is vet cleared, I hope they keep racing him until he hits the $4MM mark

The way that is going, it will take 3 more years....

IMO, no reason to keep putting a champion horse out there to get to 4 million when he isn't competitive anymore. Horse deserves better after everything he has done.

By the way: 4 mill meant nothing 2 us; fact! Horsemen who we hire, make all decisions, and always will. They are the best. Case Closed.

Sad to hear about WTW's injury and retirement.  A fan favorite, he will be missed.  He was good for the sport and had a tremendous career.

Awesome horse one of the finest ever to step a foot on the race track IMO.   bowdown

I can honestly believe he would be well over 6 million if he had any decent driver early in his career.
