Looks like I ruined Halloween
« on: October 31, 2011, 05:29:49 PM »
At my parents today I was passing out candy

There is a family that comes by every year where everyone is dressed up as religious figures.

As I was passing out the candy I was handing them out "you like 3 musketeers" "you like butterfinger" "you also like 3 musketeers" then the kid dressed as a priest I said "you like children"  (He was the oldest, probably about 16)

He goes "Excuse me, what did you say?"  I said don't worry about it, I am Catholic"  Well he went and told his parents and his mother started coming up to me and goes "what did you say" I answered "I said you like children" and she then preceded to tell my how sick I am, and how I need to turn off the lights and not pass out candy because I say sick things like that and how I should be talking to kids or letting them up the driveway.

Well both my parents are standing out there and my dad just looks at her (and her husband who decided he wanted to start talking to) and says 'get off my property' and then the guy goes well you invited us up with the light on, you should turn off the light, and then my dad just went "I asked you once, get off my property" and as they were walking away the lady had to remind me how sick I am.

The thing that makes me laugh about this whole thing is the fact that this family is so religious in the Christian Faith, yet they couldn't turn the other cheek and walk away.

This is a sore point with me.  I know too many "Christians" who think they are validated by how much time they spend in church or how much time they spend reading the Bible.  But, their actions seldom reflect the Christianity they are so fervent about.

When my brother drove a mustang he got his car stuck in a snow bank leaving mass one Sunday.  Only one person decided to stop and help him get his car out of the snow while everyone else passed him up, and the only reason I think they stopped to help was because they lived two houses down.  I hardly ever go to that church anymore but instead go to one on the opposite side of town.

Let your actions towards others determine how you are to be judged...Reading the Good Book , going to services do not equate to you being a good man....It is implementation of the principles espoused in religion that determine your value as a person.
Too much talking the talk... Not as much walking the walk.

I'm a church goer.........I'm a sinner........I have no problem admitting it.............church is like therapy to me, the best I feel is after I walk out of Sunday morning services..........I'd also have a hard time driving by you stuck in a ditch and if I did, I'd feel very guilty which is what these people should have felt when they realized they were criticizing you while their children celebrated a Pagan holiday.

As an equal opportunity offender, I say.....political correctness is the work of the devil!

Normally I wouldn't even bother posting to something like this, but this time I'm going to.

It's one thing to post a funny one-liner on a message board amongst friends (like you do so frequently here Jeremy) but why be a smart-ass in real life and do exactly as you state in the title of this thread? IMO you instigated the behavior trying to be funny. That's no way to go through life, being disrespectful to someone and especially children. Why potentially ruin someone's evening just for a good laugh? Eventually you may say the wrong thing to the wrong person and things could escalate into violence.

The thing that makes me laugh about this whole thing is the fact that this family is so religious in the Christian Faith, yet they couldn't turn the other cheek and walk away.

So it's okay to be a smart-ass but when challenged you wonder why they can't just walk away? Why not be accountable for your own actions rather than expecting others to do nothing but take the abuse? Why not just say "in hind sight maybe I shouldn't have said that." You could have turned the other cheek by just zipping your lips, shutting the door, walking inside and telling someone "I was going to tell the priest "you like kids...." ".

I'm about twice your age and have met many esteemed ITS posters. They will tell you I enjoy a good laugh as much as anyone but there is a time and place for everything. IMO that was not the time or place for that comment, mostly because children were involved. If I was your father I was have slapped you upside your head and apologized to the family, but that's just me and the way I was raised.

I understand what you are saying tonyb.......but has one who has "occasionally" stuck her foot in her mouth, I'm just glad the person I offended didn't want to be confrontational which it looks like these people did.

Sad.......but too many times, instead of people letting an insult roll off or apologizing the "get-in-your-face" attitude takes over.
