The winner of the race was Hurricane, a British Bred four-yearold that as Mr. Fyfe puts it ''Traces to Mambritonian on his sire's side and Lady Erectress, dam of Napoleon Direct on his dam's side.'' As in most countries except the United States and Canada Trotters and Pacers are raced together in the handicap events. Mr. Fyfe said that two of the best horses brought to England from the United States were Wellington Direct 2:043/4 a half-brother to Napoleon Direct 1:593/4 sire of the present harness champion, Billy Direct 4, 1:55 and Frank Dewey 2:011/2. Frank Dewey holds the British record of 2:11, most racing being done over a third of a mile track. Wellington Direct was a successful sire but Frank Dewey accomplished little as a sire. Both horses later were sold to go to New Zealand.
