WASHINGTON, PA, Nov. 22, 2013 — Magic Starlight followed live cover and blazed through the stretch to capture Friday’s $18,000 Filly & Mare Preferred Pace at The Meadows for trainer Ron Burke. With the victory, Burke became the first trainer in North American harness racing history with 1,000 wins in a season. Earlier this month, Burke surpassed $20 million in 2013 purses, also a record for a trainer in a single season.
Magic Starlight was sitting sixth for Dave Palone when she picked up the cover of the first-over Tremor Hanover. The 4-year-old daughter of Real Desire-Starlight Justice brushed wide in the lane and drew off to win easily in 1:53.4 on a sloppy surface. Her stablemate, Darena Hanover, was 4-1/4 lengths back in second, while Isabella’s Magic rallied from last for show.
Burke Racing Stable, Weaver Bruscemi LLC and Phil Collura own Magic Starlight, who soared over $200,000 in career earnings. Brett Miller drove four winners on the 16-race card while Aaron Merriman, Mike Wilder and trainer Randy Bendis each fashioned a triple.
After a break for Thanksgiving week, live racing at The Meadows resumes Monday, Dec. 2, first post 12:55 PM.
