The “Captain” races for a cause at Hoosier Park
« on: September 21, 2013, 12:36:30 AM »
When Captaintreacherous lines up behind the starting gate at Hoosier Park Racing & Casino on Saturday, September 21 he will be racing for more than just the lion’s share of the $50,000 purse in the “Jenna’s Beach Boy” Invitational for 3-year-old male pacers. The defending Pacer of the Year will start from post six in the seven horse field and will be racing for a chance to help other animals in need.

While looking to score his eighth win of the season, the connections of the harness racing superstar have agreed to donate 20% of Captraintreacherous’ earnings from Saturday’s race to assist the Animal Protection League, a local non-profit organization that finds homes for unwanted animals in the community.

“We decided to name this race the “Jenna’s Beach Boy” Invitational pace because when Jenna’s Beach Boy raced at Hoosier Park he brought national attention to Hoosier Park,” noted Hoosier Park’s vice president and general manager of racing, Rick Moore. “Captaintreacherous is doing that once again. This horse is not only a great athlete; he is a great ambassador for the sport. His appearance and the generosity of his connections to donate a portion of their earnings to so many animals in need places an additional spotlight on a night that already promises to be a special one in the history of Hoosier Park.”

The evening will also be complimented by the $230,000 Centaur Trotting Classic and two $138,000 divisions of the Kentuckiana Stallion Management Stakes for two-year-old pacing fillies. In addition to the open stakes, the opening round of the $30,000 Indiana Gold Sire Stakes for two-year-old pacing colts will be contested on the card. The purse money to be distributed throughout this action packed Saturday night of racing will topple over the $750,000 mark.

Along with the action taking place on the track, racing fans will have the opportunity to participate in a special wagering opportunity offered exclusively for the September 21 card at Hoosier Park. In a partnership with the United States Trotting Association Strategic Wagering program and the Indiana Standardbred Association, Hoosier Park will offer a $15,000 Guaranteed Pick-4 Pool on races 8 through 11.
