Robert Droste Continues To Cash In With “The Captain”
« on: July 01, 2013, 01:25:25 PM »

Meadowlands Racetrack contest winner, Robert Droste of Clifton, NJ, has a prize that just keeps on giving.

In a drawing on May 4, Droste won the grand prize in the “Win a Share of Captaintreacherous” promotion.

More than 10,000 entries were submitted over the course of several Saturday nights, and Droste’s name was selected to receive one percent of the pacer’s earnings for the remainder of his racing career.

Another $2,500 payday for the financial consultant came on Saturday, June 29 when superstar pacer Captaintreacherous overcame post nine on a sloppy track to capture the $500,000 Max C. Hempt Memorial at Pocono Downs.

The $250,000 winner’s share of the purse pushed the three-year-old colt’s 2013 earnings to $808,293, putting Droste’s share so far at $8,029.30.

Droste’s biggest check [$4,900] came when Captaintreacherous won the $980,000 North America Cup at Mohawk on June 15.

Captaintreacherous puts his undefeated five-for-five season on the line in Saturday’s eliminations for the estimated $800,000 Meadowlands Pace.

Although guests were encouraged to enter every Saturday to increase their chances, Droste’s score was sheer destiny.  He submitted only one ballot on the night of the drawing.

Droste has been a horseplayer at the Meadowlands Racetrack about a dozen times a year since the track opened in 1976, and he was actually in attendance on Opening Night.

Born and raised in Rutherford, Droste was an All-State baseball player and played for Farleigh Dickinson University for four years.

Cool promo and I will point out again that The Captain's trainer, Tony Alagna, is a Harness Horse Youth Foundation Summer Camp Graduate.
On another kind of cool note, one of our adults helping out today with Sweet Karen, jogged her while attending an HHYF Camp at Hoosier in 2001. Very cool to see someone giving back and also to see the Facebook diva (https://www.facebook.com/HHYFSweetKaren?ref=hl) still going strong at age 18.
