« on: November 16, 2012, 01:47:33 PM »
I've been around this game since 1969 and thought I had seen it all until today.

Some dumbass thought he could race the wrong horse in a stake race in Maryland and get away with it?  dorkusinterruptus idunno

And you guys at Northfield STFU on the track!  hammerhead1

It happened 3 or 4 months ago.

And they ALWAYS get caught.

It was not done to defraud the public. There were only 3 horses in the race and when they couldnt get thier one qualified they put the other in.

Its actually a sad story when it gets to that point.  4pezz2 4pezz2 4pezz2 4pezz2 4pezz2

For the qualifier they swapped out after the identifier.

The RIGHT horse did race in the MD SS.

Apparenly some Magnum PI ( Gary ?) Took the time to compare tape and the horses had different markings.

Thank god this was non betting or the bettors would be in an uproar.

5 year suspension seems right.

Just for the stupidity of it all maybe lifetime though.

its happened more than once ...not so much now but quite often a few years back.  a guy would put tin a ringer to qual  and then send a shit horse trough the sale with the lines from the ringer

Here in IL you might be able to pull that scam at a county fair, but at the parimutual tracks there's always been an identifier that checks the lip tattoo or freeze brand prior to racing.

I've seen very honest trainers with big stables scratched and fined when a groom took the wrong horse to the paddock/detention barn. It'll happen with new help, but it always gets caught.

If it's intentional burn their ass. Integrity is everything.

wasnt a stakes race but happened at Scioto in a race I was in. Switched and 8 claimer with 3 claimer. They were in back to back races and they kept the dead horse on the back wall after he raced. After they won my race with the 8 claimer ( Naturally I had a 3 claimer ) They tried to switch the horses while on the back wall. Got caught. Janet Essig got a suspension for not catching it while on the track. I got a check about 4 months later for the difference. Wrote a letter to the OSRC on behalf of J Essig.

couple of years ago at tioga a cheap horse that raced in an early race was put outside the paddock in the tent area and a groom from a later race (the open ) grabbed the horse that just raced earlier and brought him back into the paddock ..warmed him aup and raced him....and the general manager there is now the gm at the big m...so anything is possible.  one more thing..to just saying..we have identifiers here in ny also..that isnot just an ill thing!!

DC, I've never raced in NY, but I'm sure their security system is much the same. Also, here if you win or get 'specialed' you go to the spitbox for a urine test. Then 90 minutes later they draw blood to check for both drugs and Co2 level. Each time they check the tattoo number. So each winning horse's tattoo is checked a minimum of 3 times.
