CMO Goes The Bolt The Duer Route

Check Me Out - One and Done in Filly Futurity
By Darin Zoccali

Check Me Out (Donato Hanover) has been number one in
the Hambletonian Society/Breeders Crown for over two
months and rightfully so. Today, the number one took on a
whole new meaning as her connections announced that his
filly would race only in the first heat
of the Kentucky Filly Futurity, win
lose or draw, on October 7th. To
win the Filly Futurity, like other
multi-heat races, a filly must win two
heats. Check Me Out will race in
only one.
Trainers not sending their horses
back for a second heat has become
more common in recent years, as
was the case in this year

And this raises some of the same questions that came up with Duer in terms of punishing the horse in top ten poll or divisional honors voting due to the actions of that horse

They can't train.  Most apparently don't even know how to schedule.  Once again, pathetic for the sport.

Elgin, you keep saying that the "horse is being punished".  What?  Do you mean the horse's are reading the Top 10 lists?  Obviously, the owner & trainer are being "punished" & rightly so.  I think the premeditated Bolt The Duer decision was an absolute joke.  Michaels Power is back in hiding in Ontario - also great for the sport.  At this rate NO ONE should earn top 3 year old honors.

As for Ray Schnittker, this was the same guy who abused everything he drove, saying "I only need them to work hard for 2 minutes a week".  Also can't train, obviously.

In my opinion all major stakes races and fairs should be heat racing. A horse who can't win two heats in one day is simply not a great horse.
