Scioto Cancels Due to Extreme Heat

Columbus, OH --- Scioto Downs has canceled its Thursday night (June 28) racing card because of extreme heat conditions. Temperatures are expected to exceed 100 degrees in central Ohio today.

Racing will continue, as scheduled, on Friday and Saturday evenings with post times at 6:30 p.m.

Next week Scioto will start racing with a matinee card on July 4 with post time at 1 p.m. Entries for Wednesday

As soon as this was announced we all said the same thing Gary.......who the heck hasn't sweated their balls off at Scioto?..........but you have to remember.........back in those days PETA did not have the influence it now has.  thumbsdown



After a few cases of beer in front of fans this afternoon after qualifiers........we all decided it was probably the best PR move.................horsemen are really really smart after a few beers.

I raced 2 @ Spfld when it was 108deg, and had to go 2 heats each. Miserable: Yes.  Would I scratch: Never.

(Damn are those nylon colors hot)

Those phoney peckerheads tried to keep us from having a circus on the fairgrounds once when I was Fair Prez. We had a local vet, state vet, and Humane Society vet ensure that all the animals were healthy and well cared for prior to show time. When the PETA folks showed-up to protest, we told them they had to buy tickets to enter the grounds. They turned around and left. So much for dedication... total fakes.

I was filling in as owner one miserable rainy/stormy day....after I watched her warm up I scratched her because she didn't look right to me and I didn't think it was worth the risk. I got a few eyerolls but it ended up for the best - she was actually tying up so we rushed her to the University and they thankfully saved her.  lilcheerleader

The only way I wouldn't scratch one in extreme heat would be Jug Day with Grismore driving  lilcheerleader
