Gutnick: Market Share is Ready to Bounce Back
Market Share has lost four straight but co-owner Richard
Gutnick is optimistic the losing streak will end tonight at
Hoosier Park. In what didn't come up as a particularly tough
race last year's Hambletonian winner is the 5-2 morning
line favorite in the $230,000 Centaur Trotting Classic.
Market Share was on a roll through the mid-summer and
looked like the dominant member of his division when
winning the Maple Leaf trot July 20 at Mohawk. He has not
won since.
Gutnick believes the horse has been hampered by
allergies and a bleeding problem. He will go with Lasix for
the first time in his career tonight.
"I think the Lasix will help him tremendously," Gutnick

said. "When they pulled him off the track in one of his
recent races he was actually making a gurgling noise. His
throat has been inflamed and we have been trying to do
everything we can to get over these allergies. Fortunately
the cooler weather is here and that will help. If Market
Share can go back to the way he normally is then I think he
should do very well for himself tomorrow night."
Market Share's recent troubles
have give Gutnick his first dose of
misfortune in a while. For him, 2012
was a magical year as Market
Share and Chapter Seven could do
little wrong.
"This sport is always humbling,"
he said. "Even winning the way we
did is a humbling experience
because a small owner like myself
does not expect having two great
horses like that. You dream of having one great horse at
some point in time. I laughed at myself all last year because
it was so surreal, something you don't expect. When it
happens all you can do is enjoy every minute. I realize there
are so many ups and down in this game. You keep trying to
go forward and take the good with the bad."
The first three finishers from the Credit Winner
–Intimidate, Sevruga and Mister Herbie–are sitting this one
out. That leaves Market Share, Wishing Stone and Uncle
Peter as the most likely winners. Wishing Stone stubbed his
toe in the Credit Winner, finishing sixth, after winning two
straight.
The Hoosier card also includes an appearance by
Captaintreacherous in a $50,000 race and a pair of pacing
stakes, the Kentuckiana Stallion management, for fillies and
males.
