The Scioto Downs Miracle

When a casino opened at Scioto Downs June 1, horsemen
and track management thought they knew what to
expect. The racetrack/casino blueprint had been established
a long time ago and nothing figured to be any different in
Ohio. People would flock to the casino, purses would soar
and betting on the horses would no doubt limp weakly along.
But Scioto has
somehow broken the
mold. Scioto will conclude
its 2012 meet
tonight with an ontrack
handle increase
of about 35 percent
since the slots
started.
