It's time for Illinoisans to call their reps and senators and ask them to support SB1849.  SHould go to the House floor weds, then onto the Senate.

We need a veto-proof majority - 71 votes in the House and 36 in the Senate.  Each vote is huge. We had 65 and 30 in the Spring. So we're close

Update from IHHA:
from www.harnessillinois.com
Tuesday, November 8, 2011

Our new bill (SB 1849) sailed through the House Executive Committee by a vote of 8-2.   Now, the bill will go to the floor of the House most likely Wednesday. The bill passes with 60 votes, but what we're looking for, quite frankly, is 71 votes which would represent a veto proof majority.
By now, we all know Governor Quinn's position on slots at tracks, so a veto proof majority would be great.
Please take a minute to call your representative today.  Tell them you need their support on SB1849.  If you need your reps phone number check the IHHA website (legislative) or call the office 1-630-323-0808.  Thanks
Dave McCaffrey

I had dinner last night with a few IL horse folks, including an IHHA director, a former IRB member, and head of a couple stakes assoc.  Also some race supts, starter, charter, photo finish opr., and fairboard members. I made it a point to tell the group how hard I thought the IHHA crew has been working on this gaming bill. All in the room agreed, and the IHHA board member thanked us all profusely. He said he'd pass it on to his fellow members.

He also said that Dave McCaffery was SURELY paying a price for the time he has to spend away from his stable to work for our industry. IL horsemen are lucky to have him on our side... he could just move everything east and say "to hell with it".

Kudos to Dave and all the IHHA guys!

I am constantly amazed at the hours Dave puts in on behalf of Illinois horsemen.  The guy is truly committed to Chicago harness racing and always, always, thinks first of the horsemen he represents.

I've also seen first hand the respect Dave is given by Legislators and leaders of the tbred groups.  He's earned that respect.

You're right, JS, we are lucky to have him on our side!

I only met Dave once, but I was impressed with him.  I hope all his hard work and the hard work of others pays off. thumbsup thumbsup thumbsup

I raced against Dave for years and he was always gracious... win or lose. Just a class act.
