Little Brown Jug Advice Is Needed

I am attempting to put together a trip for a few days to see the Jug.  I've never been to Delaware, OH & we're planning Wed & Thu at Del, Friday night at Mea & Sat. night at Nfld.  Of course there'll be a stop at Pro Football Hall Of Fame.

So my Delaware questions are:
1 - Is there a hotel anyone can recommend somewhere near the track?
2 - What's the parking situation like?
3 - What seats should I buy (in advance) - Grandstand seats, Stadium or Platform chairs?

Also, any advice on Pittsburgh/Meadows or Northfield/Cleveland would be much appreciated.  I'd also like to know who's going.  Will 3WW make it to the Yonkers Trot, Hambo AND Jug?

I have a Motel 6 booked that is like 20 miles away from Delaware that is costing $42 per night plus tax. Your best bet is to search for motels/hotels in north Columbus.

A whole shitload of us always show up at Delaware. Most stay in lawn chairs that are set up on the fence surrounding the outside of the track.  Grandstand seats are very expensive I think, though old Gary D. sits on the wire in a box free of charge, or in a motorhome on the last turn in the a/c. I mostly wander all over the place. I will be the fayt guy in the In The Sulky shirt or the Gary Johnson 2012 shirt if he sends me a freebee.

Parking is not an issue, but be there by about 9 am at the latest on Jug day if the weather is nice. I would not concern yourself with minor details, just get there and everything will be fine. To really get a nice feel for the fair, get there the day before and watch the Juggette. Grandstand seating is cheaper and readily available. I do not know your financial situation, but another thing I like to do is watch the races from the tent on the first turn. Trouble is it costs $160 per person for admission and all you can eat and drink for the most part.

If I were going to go to a track, it would not be Northfield. It would definitely be The Meadows.. By the way, there are also several other fairs going the same week as the Jug.

The entire experience is one you will love! Everyone should make it to the Jug at least once, especially if Pezz shows up and gets teabagged by Doink and Oatie.

Gary, thanks for the advice.  I don't think the Pavilion is a great place for me as I need to have the experience of watching from a "normal" angle plus I'd rather not stuff my face all day.  That leaves either the Grandstand or Stadium.

I'm planning Mea & Nfld, not one or the other but if I can catch another fair track on Friday afternoon, that would be awesome.  I guess I'd take anything on the drive from Delaware to Pittsburgh.

I am usually dead by the end of the race card, so it's Motel 6 for me. Bear in mind that I am old, fat, and somewhat crippled. Also I get to the fair every morning before 8 am and am generally looking for horses to buy all morning and throughout the race card. In the evenings I return to the motel and look them up on the internet, speak with buyers, etc. On Wednesday night, there is a beer tent that the horsemen party in starting about 8 pm or so.

As far as your seating, the best seats are in the grandstand under the roof, but not too high up. As I said, mine is a reserved box seat and it is covered in case of a mild rain. We do get soaked in a serious rain though.

Truly the experience of a lifetime. Not certain, but I do believe that Dover fair races on Friday afternoon. It is sort of on the way to The Meadows.

If you can get in the pavilion, you will still have access to other areas. It is also nice to have a place to headquarter and to not get stuck in line behind a guy wondering how much a 3-horse $1 exacta box costs.
