I remember Lloyd well.  Saw Dancing David race many times. Too young to go.

Lloyd Arnold, 82, a longtime standardbred owner and former racetrack operator, passed away on Sunday, January 8, 2012.

Originally the owner of Arnold Cattle Co. in Iowa, Arnold raced hundreds of horses in Illinois and across the Midwest throughout the 1960s and early 1970s.

During that era, Arnold raced horses like Warm Breeze, who earned more than $250,000 in two seasons of racing in the mid-1970s, and Dancing David, who earned more than $200,000 in the 1960s. Warm Breeze took Arnold to racing

Lloyd was a hoot to be around... flambouyant to say the least. He pulled into the barn area at Springfield with a $2 million motorhome and parked it behind Erv Miller's barn. It had so much stuff in it (big hot tub, etc) that when he plugged it in it blew the transformer. He went to the maintenance shop and told them to put in a bigger transformer. Their reply was, "Do you have any idea how expensive that would be? We don't have that kind of money in our budget."  He said, "Did you see that motorhome? Just put the sombitch in and bill me!" That night they were partying in the fully functioning motorhome."

I was in Lloyd's motorhome several times at the Jug.just a great man and a lot of fun to be around. Our condolences to the Arnold family.
